please help. i can't keep my older leaves on my plants. i am growing from seed with an unknown strain. the growroom is a standard size closet with ten foot ceilings. i have all white walls and am growing fifteen plants under a 400w mh bulb in 2 gallon pots with potting mix. i have the clodet door open half a foot all the time that the light is on and a fan blowing out the top air. my plants r one month old and are branching really good but the older leave keep (rusting) at the tips and then they shrivel up and drop off. i am using 20-20-20 fert at regular dose every three waterings. the plants health is goo other than that. shoots keep growing but something is missing. I have looked at many faq's but still can't figure this one out. i know that everyone has probably heard this one before but i need people like u to help me out.

please help out a neighbour. thanx

From your statement it sounds like it could be 2 things..... Overwatering or nutrient solution burn.

Now if you water more than once or twice a week then you are giving them too much fert. People say use 20-20-20 every third watering but if you water 3 or 4 times a week then you are giving them fert every week..... NOT GOOD

20-20-20 is strong stuff and I suggest applying only once every three weeks, for some people this is every third watering.

If the problem is really bad then a flush might help but if it only affects a few bottom leaves then just cut back on the fert........

I agree Randy..I use Peters 20-20-20 every third watering..Which would be 3 weeks for me, since my girls need to be watered only once a week because of my 7 gallon containers..If your using 1-3 gallon pots..and watered every third water..It would bring certain death..... CG..

thanx i will try that next watering maybe they could use some fresh water. i just recently transplanted the plants into 2 gallon pots from 3/4 gallon pots and have a transplating formula. should i use this to try and stimulated the roots?

One thing I can add here, although it should be obvious, watering depends on your plants environment. If you have small pots in a hot, dry environment, you may need to water every other day. If you have large pots in a cool humid environment, once a week may be plenty. Check your soil, if it is dry an inch or two below the surface, you need water. Don't set your fert schedule based on how often you water, base it on what your plants need. With Peters, no more than every 2nd week. If you are using something weaker like Shultz 10-10-10, you may need to do it every week. Your plants condition will tell you.
