Its just that plastic lattice shit you pick up from Bunnings. The holes are about 30-40mm square and suspended about 100-150mm above the medium....lower is better but you need to be able to get your hand under the screen so you can arrange the plants exactly how you want as its easier to pull the plant down through the screen rather then try and push the plant down through the screen. If the screen is too high the plants can be a pain to train or you need to cut off the bottom few branches (if i cut, its a clone) Either way the screen being too high, or too low will not kill the plants it will just make it harder for you to train them The height of the screen is one of them things you will change the second time around once you fully understand how you and your plants work with the screen. 1 little tip though, try and make it so the screen can be removed WITH the plants when you harvest. Mine can't and I have to cut the plants up to untangle them from the screen. My scissors, hands, arm and even my face get covered in resin from rummaging through the buds as i cut the plants down. I would never complain, but it would be easier if i didn't have to go through the process
if i use a screen i will make a frame that will slide in on two guides so when harvest comes along i can cut the main stems at tray level and pull the whole lot out so its easyer to trim and stuff ( i dont mind the sound of being coverd head to toe in resin ). bunnings hay , are you a aussie to ?
That idea sounds good. I'll warn you though, the plants push up on the screen surprisingly hard. Just make sure the screen is pulled very tight and cant move too much....maybe build a lock into your guides somehow I spend a bit of time in Australia......I know the place well
im going to make the screen from 30-40mm chicken mesh , and the frame out of 30mm x 30mm pine that i have left over from the box frame and for the slides ill also use the 30x30 but i will have two that are space out about 32-35mm apart so the screen will slide into it and not be able to move up and down . give us a yell next time your here , do you visit brisbane much ?
hey pig did you here about the mardi grass at nimbin ? the cops say they wont tolerate drugs of any kind , what a joke i reckon there will be riots if they try and inforce it .
I'm not up Brisbane way often. I do most of my shit in Melbourne....if i do go to Brisbane its only for a few hours at a time (work sucks sometimes) - I'll see what I can do (when do you harvest ) I try and go to Nimbin almost every year to catch up with friends and almost every year the Police say they same things. But, as soon as that march starts everyone lights up and the Police don't say a word. Last year was pretty crazy i must admit....3+ live, budding plants in the main street for 2 days, presumably grown by these guys http://www.bigbongburgerbar.com/ (they have photos anyway) You going to Mardi Grass?
I want to go but i probly wont be able to , i have never been for mardi grass before i have only gone there a couple of times to score . the last time we went we asked the old cookie lady where to get shrooms from see said to go near the bridge out of town and look over the fence for them and pick em quickly . So we did and we were finding heaps , but we got a little bit side tracked as we walked further on to the property and then a shot gun was fired into the air we ran like fuck , and we got our mushies . Any way if i manage to get to nimbin ill let you know before i leave .
You don't know what your missing....you should make the pilgrimage this year though...stand up and be counted (they wont know how many joints to roll otherwise) Yeah see your missing things that that car parked in the main street in front of the hemp bar - spewing i didn't have a working camera that day
i started making a screen today (i'll try to post pics tonight) , im thinking about letting the plants grow through the screen and then tieing them down to the mesh that way i can work above the screen insted of under it . Did you let the branches start growing up from the screen before flower or did you fill the screen and then start flower while the branhes were under the screen still ? do you have anymore pics or a garden on here ?
The plants only half fill the screen when I furn to flower and I use the stretch to fill up the screen and then once the screen is full I just let them grow where they want until the buds are big enough to shade other buds from the light....then i have to do some minor tying down. I've got 5 plants in at the moment and haven't taken 1 photo of them. Couldn't tell you why, just havn't......(havn't even looked at them for the last 4 days). I will take some photos next time i'm there and start a garden (i had gardens before GK changed stuff around). I did upload some more pics of a big screen i used to use....2lb even 10 weeks out of that setup. Just a pity my grow partner kept saying "see, money does grow on trees".....made me very nervous as i'm not keen on selling it (I give it away before i sell it) so I had to walk away from that operation.
Thanks for the tips they will help me heaps . I saw the pics you posted a few days ago , sweet set up is the screen you are useing now much smaller and how much did you get off your smaller screen ? my seeds have been shiped now i just hope they get through customs , so when they get here i am going to do my first grow with the ak and the screen while that grow is going i am going to order some bubblelisous and white widow , depending on the success of the scrog i might do the following grow sog but that is only if im not happy with the results of the scrog .
Sweet! Sweet flood and drain system! I like your fibre glass job. I find that large concrete mixing tubs work great as well!
thanks man , that was my first time useing fibre glass . im thinking about building a res in the bottom of the fridge im renovating the same way i did the tray , im going to ply accross the bottom/front off the fridge and then cover it with F/B
got the mesh for my screen todayheres a pic of my screen with the mesh . View attachment 1485 the screen is about 870mm x 670mm do you think i should use 4 or 6 plants ? /monthly_2006_04/57a6c8e74d1b0_grow048.jpg.e52bb46fd9ae1a48539c1b1e6cdd7a78.jpg
One plant per square foot is what I've always heard for cabs with limited height (such as yours Tokes). That's what I'm running and it works out perfect. I have the screen mounted 8 inches above the net pots. Veg out till the plants just touch the screen (about 2-3 weeks depending on strain) then go 12/12. Don't veg too long or you'll overgrow the screen during the stretch and have a big ol' mess o' greenery that will be a hassle to deal with. Depends on your setup I guess... You could veg out one plant to fill a large screen, maybe 2 feet x 3 feet? But why spend all that time and energy vegging when you could be flowering! Don't sweat the seed thing... they will arrive neatly packaged soon enough with no troubles! Oh yeah, make sure to secure that screen! My first SCROG popped the hardware staples right off the frame!
i am confident they will get here to i just had a few paranoid moments during the wait but i think it should be all good .i used pretty shitty screws so i took them out and used some better 1's . here's a pic off what i used , i would take a pic of the screen but i could not be botherd going down to the shed (just got home from work) . View attachment 1522 also i am going to put a nut and bolt through the left and right sides to stop the actual screen from lifting . /monthly_2006_05/57a6c8e783496_grow052.jpg.8124a36b9b7efffa8a7d96516f8c2166.jpg
Wow! Thanks guys, I have a few new ideas and some inspiration after reading this thread. I'm limited in space and have been using one of the old fridges with the guts ripped out as a veg then flowering 'tank'. Don't have any fancy watering gear (water by hand) , as I knocked mine together out of necessity from gear I had around. It has a 250mm bathroom fan supp positive pressure from the bottom, and a 100mm pc fan drawing air through an intake at the top of the chamber. A 400w metal halide is what I have been using with this setup. I have been considering starting again from scratch for a while, but I had a few things that needed to be sorted before it was worth it, namely cooling,(the fridge gets a bit warm) and learning how to take cuttings properly, which is the bit thats really throwing me at the moment. I'm too paranoid to buy seeds online, for the same reason as you 'tokes', and had to get started with bagseed (albeit not bad gear) after moving state and not knowing a damn soul when I got here. I have managed to 'flower and re-veg" a couple of times so far, but I'm at the point where I need to get some clones happeningbecause things are getting more likely to turn south with the mother plant I have left. Trouble is I don't seem to be able to get any to take, I have been using a rooting powder, can you guys make any suggestion for a substitute? Bongpig, your setup is pretty impressive, can you go into the changes you have planned for the setup you had in the pics, If I build a new one, yours looks a likely candidate to base it on.
thanks G , i also like to spend as little as possible when building a new set up ( to a point , some times you have to spend a few bucks to get what you need to do the job right ) . If you are going to re build i would reckomend that you use the 250mm fan at the top sucking the hot air out and use the 100mm fan blowing in through the bottom and maybe cutting a inlet hole for fresh air to get pulled in aswell . let me know if you need me to explain it a bit better . i got the seeds yea ha ! i have soaked 4 seeds for 24hrs 1 started poping already . then i put them in my 4inch R/W cubes and they are now in the fridge . i numberd the pots to make it easyer to keep track of what's what.
