Ok, so I'm going to be building a custom grow space in the next couple of months and want to do it right so I don't have to do it twice ;). So far, here's what I have going for me:
    1000w HPS
    250 CFM elicent fan
    cooltube
flat white paint on the walls
    ozone generator

    Here's what I'm planning on:
ditching the ozone in favor of a carbon filter
possibly an A/C unit to equalize day/night temps (denser nodes and tighter buds unless I'm mistaken)
maybe switching to hydro? So much to learn :0

    Here's what I'm worried about:
Noise. My HPS ballast is LOUD and if I got an a/c unit that'd be pretty noisy too... I'm set on smell and light leak but how do you guys keep the sound down? Any input is appreciated!

is your ballast old? The new ballast are ver quite. This is as a result of

a really good case and just a new ballast. If the ballast is too

loud and you have the cash , get a new one with a really nice case.

I use ozone generator as well as a carbon filter I don't put the generator in the grow room it is outside the room and is on a nifty neat thingy that only kicks it on when needed.

i use a digital balast (100% stealth). however, before that i set it on 2 inch thick foam, really soft. it muffled the vibration, therefore limiting the transmission of particle waves through walls and floors

My ballast is brand new (I burned the old one out last year during a grow :( ) but it still makes quite a bit of noise. How much does a digital ballast run? I've never heard of that before... what about anyone w/ an a/c unit in their room?

Any suggestions for what I could do to make my existing setup quieter? Thanks again guys.

we run a 400w ballast and a window a/c unit in our grow, sound hasnt been an issue even when the landlord was on the other side of the closet wall...

In my grow room all the walls have 1 inch styraphom type insulation. I hold it up by attaching velcro to the back. It comes in 8 x 4 sheets at home depot and its cheap, very light weight and it muffels out all the sounds that a busy grow room would produce. DIG IT!!

PS I use 1 inch thickness but could easily get away with 3/4 in

Yes, any sort of insulation/foam/whatever will work well.

i would use egg crate, that yellow shit you can by in the beeding section at wall mart, it works pretty good i remember one time we used that stuff in our old home studio for the walls while we were waiting on that studio foam shit to come in. did pretty well at isolating the sound.

not sure how much the ballast is separately, but with buying the light and the ballast together it was 80 bucks more to go digital

The velcro is for big time convienance, Makes it easy to hang and come down when needed. But a sound proof grow space is very important.. I would very much recomend. DIG IT !!
