400w hps too much for fridge grow?

hi i am currently building a fridge to grow in..and i was wondering if a 400watt hps will be too much light for such a small area. i will be using a cooltube and also have inline fans bringing air into the fridge.i was also thinking of doing a lowryder cross strain to start with but which ones are avaialble now and which are AF?

 

Mate a 400w should be good for a fridge grow if your talking about a normal sized fridge. Its still gonna get a few degrees above ambient temps at best so unless you have a/c or live up a mountain its gonna be warm in that fridge come chrissy

 

yea it is a normal size fridge...i am going to use a cooltube with both intake and exhaust fans pushing air through the tube, and also another intake fan pushing cold air into the fridge..would masterlow be a good strain for a fridge grow? or are there any other auto flowering strains besides lowryder i could use?

As for the strain, why do you want an auto flowering strain? If I were you i'd be going with some bagseed from some good bud...i've had some wicked smoke from bagseed. I'm spewing I lost the last strain I grew from bagseed, but i think i might be onto a winner again

 

I agree. I'd use some good bagseed or order some real seeds. The auto-flower strains are not very potent. If you invest in a good light and cool tube with good ventilation grow yourself something nice.

 

what would be a nice strain to grow? i was only looking at auto flowering plants as i have not much space to work with and i like the sounds of seed to harvest in 8/9 weeks. i want a strain with a low profile..modest yield...and decent high....oh and quick turnover

 

would a 250w hps be better than a 400w for a small area?

 

get a 250 trust me I just tried to put a 400 in a 3 x 2 area and had to revert back to the old setup...too much heat ....for a low budget man like me to get out of there.

I would recommend the Nirvana "Blue Mystic" available at www.drchronic.com. Its affordable, stays relatively short and bushy and provides a potent smoke.


The "Orange Bud" growing right now is already 4' tall and only 3 weeks into flower. It was supposed to be a medium height plant. They've outgrown their cabinet.

 

i don't recommend nirvana's ww lol...fuckin pitiful next to some of my sacred stash o seeds..they are twice as small and are taking forever...will def never grow again no matter how good it is.....i hear good things about the blue mystic too ......but then again you always get exactly what u pay for when it comes to seeds.


also the top section could be used for a mother in heavy LST ..you should build a seperate space for clones, because the mom's gonna need a lot more light than the clones do since the clones root better in lower light situations..a small clone box can be built for 50$ and hid under the bed or in the to of a closet. a black rubbermaid container works well, and is very stealthy in a home...with a seperate clone box and a mom up top with the others in the bottom you cold prob harvest 4 plants every two months. and if you scrog them or go SOG.....you need to always be looking for ways of producing more and more in less space...because if the bud is great you know you gonna smoke the hell out of it lol...peace man and go indica dominate to conserve space...anything from mandala is top of the line and are mostly landrace crosses from India.....and their satori is an indica with amazing growth rate and larger indica 's than normal..anyways get quality seeds...don't go cheap you will regret it ...

 

cheers for the advice guys...ill definately get an indica dominant strain...blue mystic is good as a mate of mine has grown it and says all nice things..does white rhino/white widow/or white russian grow well in a scrog grow?

 

My friend.....a 250watt in a "normal" sized fridge would be very suficient indeed, as the temp will go way beyond what ya think, as ive tried this before myself, with a 600watt, in a rather large fridge and it was way too HOTT in there man, a 250 i went to, and grew 2 GREAT "NL" strains in there, and finished them off GREAT ma man....... totally!!!!

take mikey's advice, i am growing speed queen from them and it has so my vigor it's unreal. kinda wished i woulda vegged them a little longer but such an easy strain to grow. will also be growing hashberry from them as well soon, have heard good things about this strain as well. satori would also be a good choice. check them out at dr.chronic. you can't get genetics like mandala for this cheap ever so take advantage. peace. nugz

 

cheers heaps for all the help guys...im definately goin for the 250 watter now..also i checked out drchronic..mandala seeds....i think i will go for the hashberry....although satori doesnt look too bad also...might have to grow the 2 of them. also with a cooltube...is it possible to lower the light right to the top of the plants without burning them?

 

8 outta 10 satori are polyploidal plants and are great producers...their version of hashplant is a decent yeild but heavy ston...go with satori and you won't regret it.Go on HG420 and type up MIKE he's the guy over mandala seeds....or type in mandala seeds and you 'll find some huge writeups and actually seen the plants he grows....you'll see what i mean with the satori. But hey all his shit is good and he has good equiptment to boot....can't beat that Indian weed lol....yummy just ask chopstick lol.

hey green goblin....cheers for the info man you obviously know your stuff. im a newbie to indoor growing only done oudoors thus far but everyone here has been real helpful thanks!! ill be sure to keep asking for more info through out the grow !

 

I would go with female seeds grapefruit strain if you have a small space and are looking for fast growing bud.


if you veg the plant for 1 week after germanation then put it str8 into flowering the plant should end up being 2/3ft tall and yeild 20/40g under hps.
