most of my plants are about 2ft tall and the stems are less than .5 of an inch. i recently put a 400 watt hps over em about a week ago. i have noticed excellent leaves but how can i get those stems thicker?

Do you have a fan on them?

you need to try stem pinching if you dont already. the masses call it supercropping. you should do a thread search on it and read read read.....:punk:

yep, an oscillating fan is something you should have been using all along. it may be too late to do much good now. are they falling over? if so, tie 'em up! you don't want them breaking from the weight of your colas.

Go out in your backyard get a stick, get a pencil, get anything straight and just stick it in the medium and tie the steam to it for support. Not too tight tho, you still want it to be able to grow.

    like a popsicle stick-

get a fan on them if you dont already and dont overwater....droopiness is caused by overwatering.....wilting is from underwatering. if you "supercrop" you dont even need a fan in the room....although i prefer to have one anyway.

Fat stalks start early where an early source of n-p-(K) helps develop fat stalks.

    Goes with root development IMO.

They really grow with the whole plant over time IMO. I don't know of a way to make it happen all at once.

    ok now what to do?

i found out recently that my plant was doing ok soem how but for some reason my timer got changed to like 21 hours on instead of 18 hjours on and is that the reason for my leaves to be pointing down there not drying out yet. SHould i set my timer really low or change it back to the 18hr/ growth time? and is there something i can also use on the side to help it?

I do a bit of LST(low stress training) ,like trill said stalkpinching(supercropping), just gently bend your stem regularly and eventually you will thicken& strengthen it .You dont have any sticks attatched do you?Been there Since it was a seedling?Cos i forgot to take mine of once and my lower stalk was twice as thin as the stalk above which had no sticks attatched and my plant was becoming top heavy but once i removed the stick the stalk thickened out in no time at all.

As for your leaves drooping, this was a prob of mine the other day but it was due to overwatering/over nuting down to the fact i was using shitty all purpose soil that constantly looks dry as the sahara and you end up endlessly watering to keep the soil moist.

My solution was to repot(they needed bigger pots anyway) and buy some quality john innes #2 repotting soil(this is a quality UK soil)and i made up a mix with lime and perlite(this is essential!) and my leaves are reaching for the sky again, also check your temp regularly and make sure the plants are getting some sort of fresh air or Co2(this feeds them and works well).

Dont worry,in time most of your big fan leaves will drop off or need to be pruned in order to send more of the nutes, etc up north of the plant which is where you want it.Read the stickys on this forum cos they answer sooooo many questions that are asked everyday.Good luck and smoke on. :punk:

I would thank it has root rot. Just check and see. If you overwater them for a very long period the roots will rot. You can fix this by repoting it in some good soil and add 1/2 tesp root enhancers or root boster you can find in 1 glass of water. Mix with spoon real good and poor it in gradualy over the day never really getting the top soil wet at all.
