so ive been looking on ebay at different 400w hps/mh kits and im wounder what to look for when buying do i want one with the full vented looking hood or are the ones with a reflector just as good? do all come wired for 120v to plug into a regular outlet? anything else I should know? not really looking to spend over 200

I recommend HTG supply. I bought 2- 400w hps from them for under 250.00 shipped. They actually ran out of the model i bought, and upgraded it for free. I even got an extra bulb. They also took a money order and processed it quickly. If i ever need anything, i'll probably buy it from them, if they have it.

what light you use is up to you. you will have decide what features benefit you. my suggestion is to get a unit with a hood not a reflector. a hood that allows for ventilaition is better in my opinion. i would also suggest buying a lense for the hood. That will keep a lot of the heat from escaping towards the plants and you will be able to get the light closer to the plants with a lense.

    LIghting!!!

Depending on what type n how many you are willing /going to try n grow, that all depends on what type of HPS to buy!!!

I myself use a 400 watt Super HPS system from www.aquaculture-hydroponics.co.uk, and it works absalutely FANTASTIC for all my grows all the way up to 8 plants...... (THIS SITE IS VERY VERY RELIABLE N OVER NITE SHIPPING TOO!!!)

So try n get back to us to tell us how many you plan on growing , then we can give ya a better judge on that one!!!

Hope this can be somewhat of a good indication on what i use and what it can cover, to help ya decide on what, n how much to spend on what wattage of HPS to buy....

I'll cast my vote for HTG Supply on Ebay also. Got mine there as well. I negotiated for an extra bulb at the same time. He's a good guy to deal with. I'd suggest whatever you buy you get an extra bulb at the same time. If your bulb ever blows like Wawona's did you'll have another ready to screw in. Beats paying additional shipping and possibly screwing up your crop down the road. Whatever one you get to get is up to what you want to spend. Think I'm going to upgrade to a digital ballast but I've got too make it thru X-mas first. Mine is almost identical to Alienbait but I got a different reflector. Added a Bakearound to it for an improvised cool tube and never have had a problem.

That's a good bit of advice. In retrospect if I got a hood I wouldn't have had to jimmy up a cool tube for ventilation. Would have saved me some work.

    Nice Find!!!

Here my friend, iff ya can get one of those ighting systems, then go for it most defiantely my man, as that would be MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE lighting system to get, so i could vegg as it tells ya to VEGG, instead of JUST the HPS400 SUPER system, n turn them around when needed n appropriately rquired to do so from proper VEGGING , to switch over to the way youd really want it, n go strait switch to HPS for ultimate BLOOMING aswel(proper Blooming too!!!

    Great Find ma ma.......:punk:
