Hi newbie here but have been lurking for a while.Tons of info here and tons of different opinions on what is best.Im starting from scratch and am turning a part of shed into a grow room. The space will be 8x6 and 5ft tall on the sides an 7ft at the peak.I want it to be as automated as possible.I will have 6 plants(cali cardholder)in the flower room and a small box or seperate small room for veg.I have an electrician on standby that i trust and basically need to run power, sheetrock, insulate ,paint or plastic, and get everything.Any help on what lighting(HPS)Floros.etc etc will help out.Im gonna have a fan or fans to circulate air and i will have a intake system with filtration for smell. With such a small grow could i get away with a 400HPS at a stationary position above the plants and put 4 floros in the corners so everything gets light or should i stick with adjusting the 400hps accordingly?CO2 later after a few grows?Automated drip system with soil or should i go with rockwool on an automated system.I cant go in everyday unfortunately.Well i can but would prefer not to.Ive read too much an overloaded my head with soooo many different ideas i just want it as simple as posible. Thanks guys.Great site by the way.

According to Wawona's book HPS is the best way to go, and I'd go by his books lol. So you've got the right idea with that 400w HPS you talked about. HID lights for mj are MH and HPS. MH for veg stage and HPS for flowering, thats why people get an HPS because it is needed for flowering and you can veg under it if you need to. pce :punk:

Bud Greenright In the garden, you?

Easiest start up for a first time grower. Two growing areas.

One with Floros or CFL's, in this area you are Germinating veging and taking clones.

TWO A flowernig chamber that has a 400 watt HPS with a way to adjust the distance from the bulb to the plant. This area has to be light tight. No light leaks from anywhere.

STUFF YOU MUST HAVE-Other than the lights and area to grow.

Good soil & Good water-Organic prefered Fox farms is the best, Ocean Forest if you can find it. Dolomite-perlite. And a PH tester for yuor soil and water.

Thermometer with a Hydrometer- To measure temps and humidity.

A fan-At leat a 10 incher. Good ventalation and air movement is an overlooked important part of your CGE (Controled Growing Environment) the 400 watt hps can heat up a small area very quickly.

Calander and notebook- Keep track of the growing time and right down any notes you think are important. Don't try and remember everything, as some people have short term memory loss.

    Nice list, Bud.

Bentley, also keep in mind drainage, for when you water those plants. There is usually some overspill from regular watering.

And you might need to flush from time to time.

One 400w hps would do you just fine for your six plants. Rather than using those fluros on the corners, use them for your veg chamber :qbluewacko:

But if you wanna throw in those fluros during flowering as well, then by all means, SHOOOT. and yeah, make sure you can adjust the distance from your light to the plants.

    Good Soil

Good Nutes (High Nitrogen for Veg, High Phosphorus/Potassium lower Nitrogen for flower)

    Proper Watering

    pH Monitering/Adjusting

    Ventilation/Lighting

    Green Thumb

and you're on you're way to growing your own bud :punk:

Thanks guys,im in the "i cant think about anything else" begining phase of this whole thing.I wanna do it right the first time for sure.I was wondering can an air intake and outlet with filter can be on the same wall?Logistically that will work the best for me.

Is it possiable to put a duct on the intake/exhast to extend the opening to the other side of the grow area?

The idea behind having the intake low and the exhaust high on opposite sides is that it forces the air to move through your plants. If the have the holes on the same side the air will not circulate inside the box very much

Im gonna work that out i will go across the whole room one low and one high for the filtration.Do you guys think sheet rock and tape and flat white paint or plastic. It seems like plastic(mylar) would be a hassle and the right way would be to paint????????

    sup bently..

for your 400w, try to get a digital ballast with your lighting setup. for bulbs, get a standard MH and a hortilux HPS.

ur gonna need a big ass blower for ur 8x6x5 - 7ft space.. i'd say.. get a 495 CFM dayton blower, cuz you're gonna want some extra juice to suck through filters n what not.

definitely get mylar, and you wont regret it.. i remember you said something about you want to do it right the first time..

last but probably most important (in your situation), and unattainable by cash, is not being too neglectful! if you're out 2-3 days i'd say its cool, but any longer than that during any stages in flower, and your plants will dry out. also, starting at the end of veg ur gonna wanna water it thoroughly or it will dry up faster than 2-3 days :p

oh, and get reliable timers.. heavy duty ones that are grounded and UL listed. preferrably something thats rated 200w higher than what you'll be using so they dont crap out on you.:punk:
