I am starting a new grow coming up here in a new closet and have come across a little problem, in the other rooms ive had , ive always had a way to ventilate them easily like an window or a whole to the attic, but this closet is completly closed off , and i really dont want to have to put a whole or 2 in the door for the fans, does anybody have a suggestion on what i could to do ventilate this room

  2. Give some more info about the closet. Does it have sliding doors or 1 door that swings open? What kind of light will you be using?

It has one hinged door that swings open, im using a 400mh with compact florrescent lights built into it.

Unless you plan on a devout CO2 regimen, you're gonna have to ventilate. :rocker:

your plants need plenty of co2 and fresh air to grow.

what you could do ... (what I'm gunna do) Is im gunna buy one of those fans that suck in air and have a filtering system then blows out cleaner air. I'm growing in my closet, and i dont want it 2 smell. heres a link of what im talkin about....

solution box fan trust me. i got a little closet perpetual grow that has 5 plants under a 400W HPS in a closed closet and only thing i have for venting is that fan with some mylar emergency blankets attached to the door frame and wall to direct the air towards the light. only thing is the door has to stay open in that room(so noone can have access to the room), but i have everything covered in the room like windows and such anything that could produce a light leak.

ok heres the thing the closet is in the room that i sleep in and during flowering the door has to be closed to allow no light to get it, in my recent grows ive always had an easy way of ventilating the air, ive just noticed that the bathroom below the closet has a air vent for the fumes so i might try to tap into that which would allow me to keep the door closed and free of unwated light. if no maybe a whole in the on the side of the closet , so that when the lease is up on this place i can take the piece i cut out and plaster is back in then a nice coat of white paint and im done. does anyone else have any suggestion knowing now that the door has to remained closed for the purpose of light? thank you

ive come to a conclusion im going to just cut 2 holes in the wall one for intake and one for exhaust. ill try and post sime pictures when i get done to show how it comes out. now heres another question, i went out and bought a intake booster fan for your household dryer duct , its 4" dia. and puts out 80 cfm, would that be sufficent to bring air into my 4x4 room, im going to use a bigger fan to ventilate hopefully 160cfm or bigger. also my hood has a fan on it . but will this 80 cfm fan be enough, i also have a oscilating fan in there to blow are around, im going to just be spraying the plants with co2 during flowering with most likely a huge co2 tank i have from my paintball set up.

With no restrictions on exhaust and no dirt on the fan it will move some air.

A lot depends on your environment.

But you can get fresh air in there with 80 cfm.

One must also exhaust. In my mind, Would be cool if you have an 80 cfm pulling air out as well.

Also vent that light outside the room to keep temps down if that is a problem.

There are many things to consider... And it sounds like you are thinking first! Good job.

I would cut a hole in the ceiling and put in a quiet high efficiency fan or bathroom fan..and carbon filter of course.. if you must put on a roof vent.. they cost about 10-20$ and take about an hour to install... This way you can keep the smell where it belongs, filtered and up above people's heads.

of course if you are a renter, then just keep a pre cut piece of sheetrock handy to cover your tracks before you move. You can leave the roof vent on top though as most people won't notice something on the roof, especially if spray painted black.

see the problem is is the room is to far away to do that , i was just gonna cut a whole and let it vent into the attic but the attics dont have any vents of themselves so that wont work. i going to vent it into the other room the closet is in. with a carbon filter at the end, i have 3 ionic breezes and a other knock off fan that has a hepa/carbon filter with ionic capabilites, along with the carbon filter at the end of the 6" ducting ill be ok.

Folks make a room learn then upgrade when they See how things go.

What is true is that one needs fresh air, good temps and adequate light.

    The truth is it costs.

Let me suggest that a 6 inch inline will server well.

To cool the light a 4 inch inline will work.

My point is we must supply the environment.

Good air, great light and all the nutes , a little trimming and there ya go.

By removing the light heat half the problem is solved. The carbon filter can solve the air cycling of the room if it vents out of the room and so draws fresh air in if the cfm are high enough.

The resistance of drawing through a filter means higher cfm are needed.

Man I'm out of it today... Hope you get my point.

Yea i understand i dont plan on using a filter for cleaning the air before it enters the room so i wouldnt see much problem there. the room gets cold with out the light on around 51.1 and a low of about 40% humidity i know thats cold but when the lights on it should be just about right, i have a little space warmer i can put on also if it comes down to it . i have great soil great nutes. everything should be ok for this grow , i went to the hometown hydro store yesterday and got a 3 in one test for the ph of soil, wetness and temp for 30$ u cant go wrong with that investment.

Got my room finally completed i have the light on right now to see what kind of temps im going to get up to today and last night with the light off it got down to 56.4 degress and about 20% humidty which mean i might be looking at adding some humidity . and the light was off for 8 hours. i ended up using 2 6 inch 250cfm fans one for intake one for exhuast both usins 6to4 inch adapters to run 4 inch ducting in the room. 6 inch is just so big and un needed for the room. along with the 400w mh and cfls it should be an ok grow but the light just dosent seem to be that bright , when the lights on i can look at the bulb pretty much and its not that bright, my buddy has a 400w mh bulb and its bright as hell. this light does have alot of time on it so im thinking it might be worn out, also i think its supposed to be used for a aquarium and im not sure if this will work. do the bulbs have a different spectrum or does one mh have the same as another??? ok now could someone please tell me how to post pictures on here please

So is this supposed to be a veg room? cause i wouldn't use a MH solely for flower you need the red pigment to really get the hormones going to make the transition, having all blue will more than likely slow the transition down and give you less dense buds. as for the bulbs, some have enhanced spectrums for growing and others don't. the ones that don't are pretty similar you shouldn't be able to tell any difference by looking at two with non enhanced specs emiting the same lumens. as for adding pics you can either click the paperclip icon(attachment button) and upload pics from your comp but you will have to resize them in a program like photoshop to get them at the max of 110kb that is allowed. or if you have them hosted on a online source like yahoo, photobucket, or something click the icon that looks like two mountains and you simply insert the pics URL and bam!
