I am in need of a way to tied down these plants. I put them in 12/12 at 9 inches and as of this morning they are on day 14 and are 21" tall!! The tops of these 2 plants is already 13 inches from the bottom of the reflector and the lamp/reflector can not go any higher. I have already dug another 1 1/2 feet down, that part of the basement is dirt, out of the flower room. So this is the max vertical room that I have and will have. I have never "tied" down a plant before. I am not sure why these two got so tall so fast, but I don't quite know what to do. I am VERY open to any suggestions. I think that these might get just too tall by the time 8 weeks rolls around. Here are a couple shots of the flower room and what I have to work with. The 1st pic has the plants in question in the front. Pic 2- has those the two plants in the back(tallest 2) Pic 3-the plant at 9 inches on the left (when it goes into flower) the plant on the right same strain(grapefruit) 14 days into flower and 21 inches tall! Thanks in advance for the help.
i had that problem my first grow. instead of tying you might wanna try dr. nodes, or bushmaster. both are designed to force your plant to produce more hormones for flowering, and none for growth. just make sure to use half strength or less. this shit will burn your leaves! im on my second grow now an im havin a bit of the same problem. im learning how to choose my phenotypes wisely now though, so it shouldnt be much of a problem in my later grows.
Thanks Jimmy. I didn't know bushmaster did that. How much does bushmatser run? Isn't dr. nodes pretty high priced? I really don't have 70 or 80 bucks to spend right now. I have never had plant grow so fast before. I took clones from this mother before and they were finishing at 21-22" but these two are only two weeks into flower and already 22"!! I am using the same nute schdule I always use. The only change is I added those couple flood light compact floros but would that cause such a HUGH change in height?
Bend it over and tie it down. I haven't used Bushmaster, but it may be too late for that. Besides, tying is safe - no chemicals needed.
a small bottle of bushmaster is about 20 bucks and treats 25 gallons or so. its more potent than dr. nodes which makes it a better deal. use it on your tall plants first, and later on shorter plants if they catch up. you want an evet canopy for more light efficiency. i wouldnt take clones from those tall ones as youll end up with the same problem. happy high guy has a point as well. tyeing is also a good idea as it is free, and safe. ive never tied since i needed all the room in between plants i could get. i try to stuff as many plants into one area as i can. also, is this your first time lollypopping?
No this is the way I have always done it. The two plants i have the height problem with came from a mother that I have taken LOTS of clones from and never had height issues. When you tie it do you bend it over and tie just before it snaps. Or bend it a little more each day till it is bend all the way over? I think I might try the bushmasters. how far into flower can you use it?
find a spot about 6 inches from the top where you can tie without damaging bud growth. pull her over about 90 degrees....use a rubber band or duct tape around top of pot for tie down....I use a string with a paperclip on each end. you may have to adjust the tiedown a couple of times as the plant will quickly reach for the light
you can use bushmaster whenever you need it really. for best results it should be used around week three of flowering. im gonna probably use it again this go around.
Hey Jimmy could you fill me in on the details please? I bought that Bushmaster today and gave the few plants with the height problems one cup each of water that had one teaspoon to a the gallon. Any info would be nice. Thanks
well, try it for three days and if growth isnt stunted after day five, use one treatment at a time every other day or so. you are using on the low end, so you shouldnt see nute burnj. if you do see a little nute burn, move your lights up a bit, but definately put your shorter plants on a pedestal, and maybe to the outside of your grow away from the very bottom of your light. also, use it with phed water and no nutes! this shit helps all nutes from/left in your soil uptake a lot more, so you shouldnt need any nutes. pm me if you have any other questions!
i have only seen bushmaster used once, and it pretty much instantly stopped vertical growth.... From what I have seen I would definetly reccomend it if height is an issue...or even if you just want plants with really tight nodes..
