hey peeps ive got 8 clones in rookwool in humidity dome. theyve been there for a week now. lifting lid twice a day i leave off for 15 mins and spray dome. humidity 82 temps 75. theyre under a 200 watt cfl. when is the best time to remove the dome completely? theyre showing no roots yet im new to cloning cheers
Give it another week, take the dome off for a little longer everyday until the drooping stops. Eventually they will be fine without it.
There's differing opinions on this topic. Some people have had good results with a dome on there for a couple weeks or so. Personally I've found I have better results (quicker rooting times) if I only use the dome for the first few days. For me it seems the cuttings after awhile get so used to getting their water thru their leaves in the humidity they don't feel any pressure to throw roots. Once you let them acclimate to the normal/dry air they seem to punch out those roots quicker or they'll die. Kind of a tough love type of treatment. I'd suggest going with Krondike's advice this time and see what happens. You've already had em moist for quite awhile. Next time use the dome only for a few days and see which nets you beter results. There are alot of variables, how moist your Rockwool is, what your normal humidity is, the size of the clones, the amount of leaves on each clone, etc. You're going to have to experiment a little on your own and see what works best for your set up.
word thanks jake. Jake also had very good advice. I have had luck both ways to tell you the truth. If you do everything right, you shouldnt really need the dome for more than a week. However, if your clones are still droopy after a week, then continue using it until they are strong enough on their own.
i myself get close to no results without a dome, and water filled into the little trenches at the bottom of the tray. im pretty sure this subject is climate dependent! where i live humidity is around 10%, and its hot as hell!!! i use a humidifier, NOT a de-humidifier in the last few weeks before harvest. check out how a tray of each method works for you like jake, an krondike were sayin!!! these guys know their stuff!
I'd say that you could leave the dome off for moore time eaach time you open it. If your clones don't droop at all after two hours of the dome being off your probably home free. The best way to tell is that there are roots pouring out the sides of your cubes. I personaly don't like to use rockwool for cloning I see quicker and better results with Rapid Rooter plugs. You don't have to PH them before cloning like the Rockwool.
To be honest... I've never bothered with a dome. I use the bubble cloner in the DIY only I modified it for 2" net pots. I use rapid rooters, mist them for a couple of days and the let them be. I usually get roots in about a week.
i the bubble cloner in the diy too. i didnt get that good of results, but i only tried it once. i might use it here again real soon to start out a dwc setup.
high humidity can make it feel that way lol we get temps of 120 just about every summer here. the humidity is goin up a little each year too, from all the swimming pools being installed, and all the golfcourses being built. this summer the water crisis is supposed to bring my town into a state of federal emergency. any houses being built here now days have to have a desert landscape, or be desert plants by law. we are known to be a bit hotter than phoenix.
wow....any place hotter than phoenix must REALLY suck ass. I want to kill myself because of the extreme heat, Its so miserable.. I swear it makes people crazy....Fuckin Crazy I say.....Its driving me crazy....
I lived in Phoenix for 22 years. The hottest it ever got while I was there was 122. They had to close down Sky Harbor Airport because when the planes would touch down, the tires would blow out from the heat. Phoenix sucks.
