Strawberry Cough

Discussion in 'Pests and Plant Problems' started by california420outdoor, Sep 6, 2007.

  1. These plants are starting to flower and im wondering what kind of ORGANIC FERT i can use to help get some dense buds, i usually get fluffy buds so i need to do something different. Also theres a couple problems, a few of the bigger leaves have small spots on them, and a couple of leaves are curled. It's not ferts because i haven't used any in 6 weeks. My guess is heat, where i live its been 103+ every day since the beginning of the plants life. The temps just dropped to the 90s, in a couple weeks and its gonna drop to the 80s. Also should i prune the leaves? If so how much and which ones. Usually i pull off all the fan leaves and the bigger ones for penetration, what about the tie down method iv read about?

DO NOT TEAR OFF YOUR FAN LEAVES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your plant pulls nutes from the leaves to feed the buds ....kill the leaves = airy buds that hit like mexican shwag.

Those spots look like powdery mildew and it dosnt look like enough of it to worry about.

Curling leaves ...check the soils PH and again its so suttle i wouldnt fret over it.

What you have there is certainly sativa dominant be prepared for a long flowering cycle 8-14 weeks

Go get fox farms tiger bloom and big bloom and some FF cha ching ( cha ching = dense ass heavy ass buds)

You dont need to worry about penatration outdoors and FYI 85% of light pass's right thru the leaves.

Hope i helped buddy O and BTW those plants look very healthy to me feed them some flowering ferts and you will be pleased in the end just remeber be patient.

  3. Thank you for your help. Looks like im off to get some ferts tomorrow? Is there anything else i should pick up since the supply store is far away? Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, and Cha Ching

  6. I was wondering how i should feed the plants, i just picked up my FF tiger bloom, big bloom, and cha ching today. Also i got a lot of moths flying around my bud, whats some good safe insecticide i can make or buy?

Here are some updated pics 6 days later. I tied the plants to bricks to get that light penetration.

There should be instructions on the nutes.

    Homemade Insecticide

Mash 3-4 jalepenos (or even better, habaneros) chili peppers and 3-4 garlic cloves.

Put these in a coffe maker (the kind that uses paper cones).

Add a pinch of Italian seasonings.

Run a full coffee pot of water though it.

After it cools, pour it into a 1 gallon container (I like to use an empty milk jug WELL MARKED), add enough water to fill to top and add 3-4 drops of liquid dishwashing detergent.

    This is an effective insectide.

Diluted even further, 50/50 with water, it is also a good preventitive.

Spray every 2 weeks to prevent an infestation.

It's essential that to rid yourself of mites you must spray with insecticide every 2 days for 2 weeks, alternating with plain water. If you don't, you'll never be rid of them.

It's also essential to switch insecticides. The pests quickly build up a resistence to a specific type, so use pyrethrin or neem-oil based insecticides, insecticidal soap, and some of the newer oil products.

Always read the label and make sure you seee the words "can be used up to day of harvest" (which means vegatables).

Keep this in mind... if you wait til you have buds before you spray, the spray (and dead mites) will affect the taste and quality of your buds. Knock 'em down early.

P.S. Ladybugs don't eat spidermites. They don't have the mouth parts to pierce their hard shells (spider mites are arachnids and have a rigid exoskeleton like their relatives...crabs)

  8. i dont have any mites yet, iv used neem-oil and soap in the past, i had a real bad problem last year where i got hundreds of little green caterpillars. but i moved and im in a different environment now. iv spotted 3 grasshoppers, im concerned about those.

I was thinking that the soap would get trapped in the young buds, and id imagine smoking soap would hurt the taste.

Your only other option is insecticides, which I imagine taste worst than soap, and are definitely worse to consume.

  10. The plants are really doing nicely since iv been feeding them FF tiger and big bloom, in a couple of days im going to be feeding the cha ching. I hope to see a difference. Iv heard its easy to burn plants with cha ching?

Anyways this pic was taken on sunday, looks delicious...

Heres a question, should I cut the weaker branches at the bottom with small nugs to provide the larger stems with more nutes, or should i harvest half the plants, allow the bottom branches to grow bigger and then harvest the bottom?

Do I flush harvest the top, then start feeding again? or keep flushing?

since youre outdoors an cant replant till april or so, leave the lower nugs on to fatten up. keep flushing all the way through, the plant will feed on left over leaves. what kind of soil are you using? if you have a really good organic soil the plant will also feed on the nutes in it instead of the ones you suppliment with. if youre in plain ol backyard dirt, some foxfarms ocean forest on top will bleed off some good organic nutes to the roots when you water even when flushing. next year i would plant in some good soil as well.

  12. There actually isn't any soil at all, it doesn't drain very well. Prior we had just laid the cement you see, all that by product is in the dirt. Its very sandy, and very hard in some areas, but with all the watering and digging and moving around of dirt, the stuff around the plants is pretty soft. Mushrooms were growing under the plants to i stopped watering so much, problem is it will be 109ยบ outside and im thinking my plants are gonna cook, so i water every day, no signs of wilting or anything. I think the dirt around here might be of some nutritional value. I live around many many farms, in fact corn started growing from the dirt all by its own and i certainly didn't plant them.

Thanks, im gonna harvest the fatter branches first, then allow the bottom branches to get fatter.

watering every day with those temps is a must. if its that hot and doesnt rain often where you are you gotta do it. when it cools off only skip a watering when topsoil is still wet. i live in a desert climate an know all about it, so dont worry about it, youre doin the right thing.:ebert:

    love the cough

i have grown A LOT of strawberry cough. I used the same ferts you are dealing with. minus the cha ching. keep it simple. follow the link below for a great starting point. if you keep the strain going you will learn what to tweak to get the big buds you desire. the strain is more than capable. i fed once weekly with plain water between.

  15. Iv followed that chart somewhat. I have a 1 gallon pitcher and i put the nutes in it and water the plants, 1 gallon each plant. since the dirt always looks moist I have been putting some nutes in a spray bottle and spraying the leaves. Im not sure if thats adequate feeding but the plants seem to be responding well, and they look pretty healthy. Except for the corner of the plant, I have a dog that pissed on the plants, the piss was like acid it ate away the plants, looks like it burned the plants. Iv blocked off the plants from the dog since.

Yesterday i was spraying my plants with some insecticidal soap mixed with dish soap and i found a preying mantis. I think its a good thing it being there, however it wouldnt be there if my plants didnt have bugs. I dont see the bugs, when i wash the plant with the water hose i see maybe 2 or 3 moth looking bugs, i think they might be white fly but they dont look like the pics iv seen, but maybe just a different species. and while looking very very closely iv found a couple white amber looking eggs stuck to the bottom of leaves and i found one stuck to a hair on the bud. They are about the size of a pin head. Seriously not too many tho. Today im going to pick up some ladybugs. Hopefully the soap doesnt kill them but i want them to eat all the eggs.

Have you grown the strawberry cough outdoors, what was the outdoor flowering time for you?

Also does it look like the same pheno I have? Thanks

always grew it indoor. that does look fairly similar to the cough i grew. it's 80% sativa which explains those long skinny leaves.

here's a cupl pics i found of the SC that i grew.
