i would like to have a very eclectic collection of weed next harvest time, and i was looking into some strains, and i have heard lots of good things about panama red, and how its an old old school strain/super good. anyone know where to get some of these seeds??, and suggestions for some other "exotic" plants, not really exotic, but out of the ordinary, a strain that wouldnt normally be found in the average growers collection?

For old school genetics like panama red or acapulco gold you have to know someone that has seeds/clones. I don't know of anywhere you can buy them.

I think you're hearing more movie propaganda than anything. Most of the old strains have died out or have been kept alive by clones over the years (ie: the true real purple haze). Grow some shit like Ice, Blue Mystic, Jack Herer, White Rhino ... average grower's don't have those.

On 2nd thought, who really cares what strains you're growing as long as they're potent? If you're growing the only person who should be benefiting is yourself! That's just my take on the issue though.

well the reason i was looking for panama red and old strains and shit is so i can know that im smoking a plant thats part of a huge history of weed ya know, i dunno just think itd be cool to smoke a pure old strain instead of this crossed with this with a little bit of this...it may be better, and i do like thesecrosses and shit, i just havent seen any pure strains, not crossed with anythin

    jimmy the lizard Genius beginner!

afghan #1 from sensi seeds is supposed to be a pure landrace strain, and im sure you can find others if you do a google search. its not a famous strain in this part of the world since it doesnt grow here naturally. strains that have truly phenominal highs that are found growing naturally are almost always crossed with other strains to improve yield/indoor growing ease.

i dont think youll find genuine landrace strains native to the americas unless you travel to to small villages in search of them yourself.

i gotta edit this post cause i just found out that several landrace strains combined were used to breed afghan #1, which means that afghan #1 itself isnt a pure landrace strain, but in fact only bred from pure landrace strains.

like i said, unless you travel abroad yourself and talk to an old farmer who swears to have not crossed the buds he grows you may never get the real thing.

but are these strains known period? like natural occuring cannabis in north america, i dont think that would be a growkind thing but more of a thing that scienctists would have figured out just to know right im sure people know it....

I have not seen those strains since I was a teen. I agree they prolly died off and even skunk is not the same as when I first started smoking in HS. Panama Red and Columbian Gold were SWEET but it has not been around here for over 20 years.

Well, Acapulco Gold is very alive and well. The reason you don't hear much about it anymore is because tourism to the Guerrero coastal towns has dropped off significantly since it's poularity in the 70's.

it's a halfass smoke with a 12 week flowering time(more or less)....it was popular back then because tourists could get it easily for $10 an ounce. and they came back and talked about it. it isn't suited to clandestine indoor growing and not nice enough to risk your freedom growing it in your backyard. That's why it's no longer heard of.

Panama Red is a VERY nice sativa....I have not seen anything of this strain in over 10 years. iT is a very pretty red color and all that I've ever encountered would stick to your hands like mollases if you squeezed it.

My last encounter with this was when I was working the docks in Veracruz around 1995 on a Panamanian freighter. This is going to be another long flowering strain. Most of the trafficking of weed from Central and South America has fizzled out so now all the commercial bud comes from Mexico.

alright next grow is determined:4 lowryder (or another type of rudy hybrid...autoflower!!) 4 white widow, 4 cali orange bud, 4 skunk #1, 4 purple haze (or crosses) .. and 3 other strains that the rest of you should suggest, i live in canada so take that climate into account when suggesting... make it your personal favorites or somethin along those lines.. keeping teh theme of out of the ordinary, semi exotic, not your average garden...and COLOURFUL:). THANKS:scream:

Panama Red, Redbud, virtually anything exotic was worth waiting for. You're probably smoking shit twice as strong now as that weed was. I remember reading an article in High Times that said there was some place in Mississippi, where the government was growing weed 5 time more powerful than anything on the street. I thought it was impossible anything could be as good as some nice Thai-stick. Boy was I wrong. It wouldn't really bother me if they were extint. But that is way old school. I was talking to a friend from high school and we don't even remember getting anything much but leaves. Very few buds back then for the frugal afficianado of the beloved weed.

Why 4 of each? Not to sound like a dick but that sounds like a big newbie mistake, that's a LOT to take care of. One of each is more than plenty ... I've made harvests of 3 pounds or more off a half dozen plants (DWC), and keep 8-10 clones alive 24/7 to support my habits (and a close friends) and have plenty left over between harvests (and believe me, I smoke at least 6 spliff's and a handful of bongs/bowls). My normal harvest averages 2lbs off 10 plants, SCRoG really is the a great method with amazing first gen hybrid's, don't skimp on soil or nutes - go organic, and cure to perfection. I went SCRoG because I had some really bushy strains going, that branched out and took up 2-3' diameter, so I trained them to grow out. Plants would be kept under 40" and 8 plants would take up a 8x6 plot in my basement. I took utmost care of my baby's, and trained them suckers to take every watt that my HPS was throwing at them. They wanted to grow, I loved it. I've kept the best going by clone since.

I turn crops over in a maxiumum of 10 weeks - 2 and a half months. I figure with around 2lbs (conservatively) split, 20 o's for 10 weeks, I have to moderate my smoking to around 10g a day - not too hard, I'll smoke a fat eigth a day but sometimes more (if I share), and still have a few O's left when I'm finishing cure on my next batch. I usually have 5-6 strains growing, some bigger than others (ie: big bud to say, lowryder or jack herer/white rhino) and most of my strains are hand picked from a few years ago when I did some profit growing. (15-20 plants x 4 strains = FULL basement).

Don't bother asking for pics of operations either, those are just incriminating. As everyone knows, everything I say took place in the Netherlands and not rich Suburbs of PA :pottytrain1:

No need for 20++ plants man, I found that out after my first dozen. That was hard, it really is work.

The 4 of each, is because i am not spending the extra money on fem seeds, and i will plant 4 in different areas. And im pretty sure that one is going to die from environmental issues, one is going to be a male, one is going to get robbed, and one is going to be a female.. im guna try and take the best one (MAYBE 2) from each strain. and then i have 8 -12 quality females growing in different places, so during harvest time, ill figure out which is best to harves when and then take 3 weeks and slowly harvest everything, gettin the happy up high with teh first harvests, and then slowly to the couch lock later in the season. and then after that. if i get them all grow aunatural, i should be lookin at 4-6 pounds, which is 32-72 ounces which is 896 - 2016 grams. (thank god for windows calculator!!) if i smoke a quarter a day, this harvest could last me from 128 - 288 days!!!!!!!!!!. i could be set for like 9 months lol

off smoking a quarter a day

im sure i could drop a g a day and make it last the full year. ill have 28 different planting sites, but itll be 3 months of labor, for a years worth of being stoned lol.. id say its a decent tradeoff. and if i chose to sell that weed, i could have over 12 grand athe most... even 3 months of labor for 12 grand is pretty sweet.

I've never done outdoor but it seems like it might not be as much work as DWC indoors:qbluewacko:
