Hi all! Well here's a delema I never thought I'd find myself in.... My plant is getting too tall for my room (see attached pics). I'm in week five of flowering under 12/12 metal halide. This is an "early misty" My plant with pot is now 65" tall!! I've only got about 14" more of ceiling hight for adjustment. Two questions ,will it slow down? should I top the top bud at this stage to stop growth.?? Buds are looking good I think. What'ya think?:qbluewacko:
Fix lights Lights are too far away and mh lighting from what i understand is no good for mj u need hp lighting and bring it down a bit, a lil bare on foliage as well, have u had the lights too far the whole time? MJ should be thick and full with leaves, until the end when its time to harvest then leaves yellow and fall off from bottom up.
mh isnt "no good", but hps is better, .. i second the moving the lights closer, and topping would stop growth .. iam in week 5 of flower aswell, and my main growth happened around week 3, and then it did slow down, i dunno if thatll happen to yours or not, but my plant did have a big growth spurt, and then slow down.
A MH light will work for flowering. Plenty of people do it, although a HPS would be better. Move the light closer ONLY if it wont burn your plants. Those lights are hot. 5 weeks into flowering: It should be done with stretching by now, so I think you will be fine. Do not Top! At this point, that is your main cola. If you are running out of room, GENTLY bend the top over and tie it down, just enought so that the light isn't burning the plant. Just my opinion.... By the way, you plant looks nice and healthy.
Yes, the plant does look healthy........but I think bud production isn't what it should be for 5 weeks. Seems like all the energy and growth is focused on the vegetation. Here is a pic of buds @ 4 weeks on a grow a while back.
Yeah I have to agree with AlienBait that a HPS light would be better. A 400 watt HPS would be the minimum that I would use on a plant of that size to get maximum size bud growth...
To keep a plant short you have to keep the light close from the very beginning of vegging. You're over half way finished flowering so there's not anything you can do at this point to improve your yield. The great thing about making mistakes with growing is that you usually get some sort of reward in the form of smoke, and of course the knowledge you gain to make your future grows more successful.
Too Tall Thanks all, Well ,I know I've read, to keep the bulb 12 to 18" away from the plant?? Is that wrong? Anyhow as the Gods would have it, my 400 watt "HPS" arrived todaY!!! So even though I have just 3 weeks left I'm gonna hook her up, give it a try ( save some electricity (I hope) ) and maybe improve my final two/three weeks. You all are the best, and I look forward to communicating in the future. I'll let you know how it all shakes out!!!!
i'm betting she'll come alive with that 400. don't be so sure about harvesting in only three weeks, i know she's flowered a while but she barely has made any bud. let it grow and bud a while, i bet you'd be pleased. my first grow was like that, didn't do some things proper with lighting and the plant was tall as hell, taller than yours. i chopped it too early cause i was more worried about how long people say to let it flower instead of watching the plant itself to see how long it should flower. granted... it was still good smoke... but not much of it. your plant looks nice and healthy though... damn if that sucker was outside a few months ago... damn...
New light OK gang, the light I was planning for my next grow,is installed ( a 400 HPS) I know it is late (5 weeks) but maybe this late kick in the ass will show some fruit. I'll keep you all updated with pics and words> Thanks for the feedback.
Being shes so far behind in flowering what would it hurt to let her flower 5 more weeks?? She looks Sativa she can flower longer.. As long as the fan leaves stay green let her go.12/12..That will greatly improve your yield... As for the light I use the back of my hand to see if its to close to the plants If your hand is too warm and its even with the plant back the light up... you can put a fan in front of the light to help it stay a little cooler..set it up on a chair if you have to or hanging from a rope as long as its even with the light that will help with heat Good Luck on your Grow
