This is my second grow attempt. I have read widely and am trying my best given that finding stuff in my area is hard. In my first grow, using bag seed and tube floros & CFLs, I had slowly browning/yellowing tips. The seedlings lasted a few weeks and died. I don't know what happened. Now I have refurbished my cab, added additional CFLs, a ventilation system, bought new soil and miraculously found someone who was willing to sell me some DP blueberry seeds. I'm trying again. I am starting to see the same browning/yellowing on my one and only plant. I am 24/7 right now and have my seedling in too large a pot - which causes the soil to dry too fast perhaps? Another possible issue is the dry air here, and possibly temp variation. I have used the finger method to determine when to water, and have wated just about every day, twice a day when the seedling first broke the soil. I have used no nutes, and the plant is about 12 days out of the soil. I'm worried that these plants will grow browner, and yellow then die. Anyone have any advice?
More picsHere is another pic of my plant, and a pic of an old plant that was much larger and died (although the picture show just a bit of the plant, all of the plant looked like this)Thanks /monthly_2007_12/P1close.jpg.fd0fe5fa155c0e4fc29a198cd01d5304.jpg /monthly_2007_12/P3.jpg.7cd31df0211bf6e499bbe350a0046518.jpg
Plant problems to see your babies struggling. On your new plant at 12 days I think you may need to start adding some fertilizer if you havent already, use at 1/4 to 1/2 strength. Looks like some nut def maybe Mg or calcium. Also check your water PH make sure its in around 6.5. If you don't have a PH meter go to any pet store and in the aquarium section they have cheap test kits. If you are using city water try using some bottled water it should be around a PH of 7. On the older dead plant to me it looks like light bleaching, although I would think that would be hard to achieve with CFLs you may have to much light. I have had some sprouts do strange things if my CFLs were to much to close. My .02, maybe some of the grow pros here can offer something better.
Bottled water That is on my list for tomorrow. I have left water sit to let chlorine evaporate, but your correct, I do not have a PH meter (will get one next month when I have a chance). I moved baby away from the light, about 5inches or more now. I have been dry for months now and am considering finding some religion and praying for my baby.
I'm going with overwatering. The larger plant looks like it had a mold or fungus. You gotta let the soil come close to drying out every now and again so you don't promote mold and crap with the dampness. Also what do you have it planted in as far as soil?
soil Darn if I can read a thing on the bag. I'm living overseas and can't read here... but the soil is pretty light and had pictures of fruits/veg on the bag. I grew tomatoes in some it and they are doing well. I thought that I let the soil dry, especially over the past few days, but I will be more careful. I know that over watering is a common mistake, but I have also wondered if the dry air, big pot and fast draining soil has kept them too dry??
looks like maybe ph bro,,, get somedolimite lime if possible,, try 1/2 cup in 2 gallons of soil,, or get bottled spring water and try it,,, also,, try 18/6 on lighting.. what the temp in your room??? wondering if the floor is too cold?????? plus,, the soil looks like garbage buddy,, sorry.... you need better drainage if anything....
it could be pre-fertilized soil... whats good for growing fruits and vegetables isnt neccesarily good for growing buds
That's what I was thinking....the probably the reason they make it so far and die, getting burned.....got a pic of the bag of soil? Maybe we can see what kind it is.....Adding the lime will help, if it is ph, at the least it won't hurt...
hmmm... That's what I was thinking ,too...the nutes in the soil aren't meant for a seedling....they are more delicate, could be getting burned.:icon_confused: But I also noticed that the stem looks like it may be collapsing....a sign of damping off, usually caused by overwatering.... The larger the pot, the more water in the soil; the seedling roots can't use all that water and may end up drowning.(but it depends on how well-draining the soil is...) Just my opinion...I start in smaller pots and transplant as they get bigger...it's just easier for me....what I'm used to...lol
Chime in My 'vote' is also that the soil is too acid for new sprouts, perhaps for Mari in general. Is there no indication of the PH on the bag, even if the words are Greek to you, numbers will be there? The soil seems to be the common factor here, yes? I'd say if that's true (same soil) than *bingo. They look great otherwise, to me.... I'd get it verrrrry carefully re-potted in some KNOWN soil. Don't give up hope! .02
I'm going with over watering a seedling doesn't need to be watered 1 or 2 times a day. Plus you need to check the ph.
soil Thanks for all the feedback. I gave the bags a good look, and went online to help me read. The main bag that I used is ph 6.5, +/- .5, and the bags that I used before say 'slightly acidic'. It will be difficult for me to find lime, but I'm going to try. Is there something else around the house that could help me to reduce the acidity? I'm going to used bottled water and let it dry out a bit too.
i dont think its nuts burn by the lack or burnt leaf tips...i suggest a cal-mag suplement an a ph tester...also when testing ph...make sure you ph the run off at the bottem..for that will show you truely what the soil ph is at...peace az
