I am curious how tall plants can get in 8" pots before you need to transplant. I know there are many variables, that is why I am just looking for avgs. from people that have used 8" pots. I am growing HashBerry(mandala) and WW(dutch passion) under a 150watt HPS in organic soil. Also, should I upgrade to 10" or go up to 12" or more when I transplant. My total grow area is 2 x 2 so I am afraid 12" pots would be too big, Any suggestions here on how to get more soil for the plants but still in this 2 x 2 area? Thanks guys always for the info!!

I use 8inch square pots for veg in a 2x3 area. Most plants seem to do OK the entire veg time in those pots for about 1 1/2 months. Normally the plants are about 12-14 inches tall when I do transplant. The roots are up against the sides but don't seem really root bound.

I did a complete grow in this area before and used 2 square 15x15 pots with two plants each but that is to large for your space. Hempy buckets would work great I think for that kind of area or try to find a pot that is close to 2x2square, or make one out of plywood. You could get by with 12inch pots but they would most likely start to become root bound late in flower.

From my limited experience bigger pots and more light make bigger plants. A 400watt HPS would kick ass in that 2x2 area with 4 plants.

I was watching one of Jorge Cervantez' videos on YouTube and he made a reference in one of them to the effect that you should shoot for one gallon of pot for every one foot of vertical growth. 3 gal pots = 3 ft plants. 5 gal pots = 5 ft plants, etc.

I went to a dollar store and found WHITE plastic trash cans and drilled holes in the bottom. They're 11.4 qts. and measure 12"x8"x12"

I posted a pic. until I realized that you could view ALL my photobucket pics. Not cool! I'm such a dumb fuck sometimes!

    Depends...

Mine are usually in 12" pots(or bigger...usually) by the time they hit bloom stage, but it depends on how fast they are growing, and how small you want to stay. Height varies greatly depending on what I'm doing to them, but the age at which I transplanted(indoors) from 8 inch pots was @ 4 weeks, give or take a week. Height varied from 8" to 12" (from the top of the pot) All the same age, just different techniques ...I also decided to flower earlier than expected, so I went ahead and repotted at 7-8 weeks into the 12 inch pots so I wouldn't have to mess with them in bloom....and they were @12-18 inches tall in 12 inch pots....lol, they still are 12-18" tall, I keep them tied down. :)

I start clones and seed starts in 18 oz dixies then to conventional 5" pots then to 8 1/2" or 9" then to two sizes of flowering pots 10 1/2" or 13" the 13" holds 17 qts of soil all are round pots. To maximize your growing space consider going to tall square containers. I understand plants do not become rootbound in pots with angles instead of a circular form. If I didn't have a small fortune invested in round ones I switch over to square myself.
