Hey all, I planted 60 generic run of the favorite bag seeds on Jan 1 and as of this morning 15 have germinated successfully...one however is freaking me out... At first I wasn't sure if it was a plant or some strange piece of my seed starter mix...but upon closer observation I could see that two...yes two...plants were coming out of this one seed...one is a little smaller than the other...but they both appear to be quite healthy...so I was just curious if any of ya' have come across this freaky situation before... I plan on letting it grow...I will keep you all posted on it's progress...blend...Daze
Personally i haven't had it happen but i have seen alot of oics of them and from what i understand one usually is weaker and doesn't survive.
Twins! Happens occasionally in the plant world too. Congratulations, but if one does look a bit sickly, youi might have to do the best for the stong one and let it go. If they are both looking reasonably healthy, frow them up and if they are both girls (usually you should have the same sex for both in this situation as they will be almost idential in genome), pick the stongest and let her grow and clone the other after removing it from her sister. Hopefully this should let the stong one flourish and youve already got a copy of her to start again with. Peace.
Hey, I know twins...I'm gleaming like a proud papa! Listen as of this a.m. both were still doing just fine resting and of course growing! Both appear real healthy...who wudda thunk!?! And to make the daze even brighter 21 outa 60 beans(I guess ya' callem' round here) are successfully up and at em'!! Me so happy! Progress reports pending...blend ya' all! Daze
Are they in the same pot? Are they completely seperate, ie: not sharing roots/stems/leaves/etc? I've had a similar experience, and both turned out to be males. This does not mean your babies will be males, but this happens in nature sometimes. Tiwns are a sign of mutation, but some mutations are good. If you are growing a seed garden, I would suggest seeding with one or both of those plants if they are females. I would put them in individual pots, if you are using a soil medium. Keep us updated!
It happens sometimes, like 2 yolks in an egg. It's not a good as you might think. It's a bad idea to hae 2 plants in a single container. They constantly fight each other for space and food. If I were you I'd choose the best one and cut the other off at soil level with scissors.
Howdy from the heartland, people! Lil' progress report to git ya' all straight or clear on what's been going up! The twins are doing quite well, and Danger I agree with you up to a point. The way I see it is if they are both growing and don't seem to be draggin' one or the other down than I will let em' grow and chalk it up to my little experiment...seeings how Ndigo sayz this plant is a mutation...lol! Oh, and Ndigo in reply to your observations and ???'s...Yes they are both in the same pot...and before I transplanted them (it) into larger containers I could sorta see that it was lookin' pretty obvious that these twins are coming from the same root structure...like I said before itz freaky! I will reiterate for sake of confusion one is slightly smaller than the other but by no means lookin' any less healthier...itz just too good too be true!...And yes I hope they is girls... As of this a.m. I have 23 for 60 beans up...and it seems like that may be about it for the germ. session...I always seem to get around 33%-50% germination success rates...lookin' for the daze when I can see a 100% germination rate for beans planted...I have a dream! Blend it up...Daze
Day 5: The Twinz are alright...only the one smaller one now is about only half the size of the other. The larger one is approx. the same size essentially as the other general population that hatched the same time roughly. So to summarize one now seems to be dwarfin' in size compared to its' twin sis (I hope) but yet it looks supremely healthy so I will let it grow As for the larger of the two it is lookin' quite healthy two...in fact all the kidz for sum reason are lookin' quite robust this round...hope's spring's eternal...got my fingerz cross'd. Still no namez for my twinz...I know it sounds silly perhaps...but I normally name my girls. Any suggestions, kidz??? Blendin' s'more...Daze
Day 12: Twinz are alive and kicking. The size difference is now like 1/6th. In other wordz...the smaller one is about 1/6th the size of the larger. Size seems to be a non-issue for the smallest. It is healthy and already workin' on itz second set of leaves. Not counting the coty's.. Danger...you give me the impression that I am doomed by not following your advice of sacrificing the smaller for the sake of the effort. I realize your point...and point taken...however for the record...itz my grant money and my experiment so bug out...ya' hear...had ya' goin'...didn't I. Only kiddin' Danger...just for the record though, I felt as if your advice sent rain on my parade vibes...that's all. Sonoprob...I'm just ribbin'ya. Next update in ninedaze. how about cutting a clone of the smaller. otherwise it sounds like it will eventualy croke. that way, if you cut it, you still have two plants. just not joined anymore
I have some input non relivent to the topic but, my friend had a plant i seen it a 2 1/2 weeks old and it had the origanly two leaves and then two sticking strait up about one inch about turned side ways it looked like mousse ears or somin they were abnormaly shaped too they really looked like a mousse any one ever had anything like that before? p.s. why have i logged in 4 times and it excepted it but when i try to post something it says guest???
Tibber, hey thanks for your input, however I think the twinz are too young for cloning. And too be quite honest I don't know diddly-squat about cloning. Sneekpeek update: Daze 16: Twinz woke up this morning...lookin' well. The largest is approx. 4-5 inches tall. The small one is approx. 1 1/4in. tall. The large one is workin' on 4th set of leaf. The small one workin' on 3rd set. As far as I can tell neither is showing any signs of strain or disease or malnutrition. Which I believe would be evident by now...if something like that was inevitable... However, they are still quite young...so I dopn't believe I am exactly out of the woodz just yet. Apparently no one here is interested in giving name suggestions...for my twinz...hey that's ok...I will let ya' know what I come up with. heehee! your answer is right in your signature! i think you should name the larger of your twins "dazed" and the smaller one, "confused".
Those are bitchen names Mary, Although being the optimistic guy that i am i would name one Bonnie, for female sake and one Clyde for male sake! Hopefully the both turn out Bonnie's though! Good luck, sounds cool! I wish i could have that happen to me! Keep us posted! laterz..............fire up the blunt!
Well, just when I thought no one gave a hoot! Sum name suggestions appear... I had almost thought about holding a "Name my Twinz" contest...and giving away sum really cool prizes...but thought that bordered on lunacy... I held faith that sumone here might let the creative juices flow...and wah-la...presto...it was to be. First off, thanks to Growhappie and Ndigo...for their solid and well thought out input...never let it be said that neither of you hasn't a creative thread in your fabric...but your name suggestions sumhow missed the mark I was lookin' for. MaryMary on the contrary has hit the mark...I was thrilled to find that the Twinz names were right beneath my nose the whole time...and thanks to Mary for offering up her most invaluable insight to this...and so it goes... The Twinz as of today 1/20/04 are officially named! Dazed is the larger of the two, and Confused is the smaller! So fitting I agree!! MaryMary...Budz to ya'!!
