I just got home from the MMA (mixed martial arts) fights here in milwaukee and man was that shit bad ass. Duke Rufus a 4 time champ was the main event and it was so awesome. I love to see two people just go at it and fight till one quits. when you watch these fights you can tell right off the bat who has the experience. Duke had the other guy (a oriental) bloody in the first few mins. it's not that I dont like orientals it's just way cool to see one get stomped into the ground by a westerner. It was my dad, brother and me family bonding I guess. My dad is a total pig he was taking pics of the strippers instead of the fights. no nudity, strippers where at fights in skimpy outfits though. my bro is a marine corp sgt black belt the whole time I had to listen to "man these guys are pussys I could kill them so easily with two moves" and shit like but it was well worth it. well enough I need to smoke one just wanted to tell you guys about my night and how cool the fights where.

Try be respectful of others, even if it isnt meant to be offensive,etc..

Yeah my thoughts exactly AB,lol... Stang,i know you may not mean anything by your comment and all that but dude,we got asian members on here!I aint callin ya rascist or nuthin, just sayin... try be respectful of other members man.Thats like someone comin on saying that they like to see a whiteman getting stomped on now and then by a person of colour, etc. You wouldnt really dig that would you, seriously, not being a dick or nuthin but i know if i was an asian member lurking or reading the forum that i wouldnt be too impressed to hear this kinda thing,c'mon we all tokers no matter what race.. id rephrase it to say:icon_biggrin: " i like to simply see men kick shit out each other!" Just try remember GK is multi ethnic and national man.:icon_wink:peace:ebert:

didn't mean any disrespect to anyone I consider the Asians to be the best at martial arts. this wasn't me hating on Asians I'm just glad to see Americans (westerners) able to hang with the best! I guess you had to be there to know what I'm saying. I watch most of the Kimbo fights too he is one bad mofo.

  8. jimmy the lizard

    jimmy the lizard Genius beginner!

neither boxing, nor wrestling came from asians, unless i was taught wrong, and brazilian jiu jitsu was developed in.......you guessed it BRAZIL! the term mixed martial arts pretty much means you can use techniques from any dicipline, from any part of the world.

oh, and by the way talltrees, kimbo is 33 years old, and tank is 42.

when an asian acts like an american is too dumb its because of american arrogance, much like the arrogance displayed in a comment which is backed by no research, or experience, and only speculation. btw when you refer to a rug, or a soup from asia its oriental. when you refer to a person theyre asian.

oh, and when the ufc was still trying to prove which martial art was best, at least one military fighting specialist, (who was such a good army bear fighter that he developed his own system called R.I.P.,) got his ass handed to him in a matter of seconds. those one or two move fighting systems only work against someone who doesnt train regularly. even bruce lee knew this back in the early seventies. trust me, i know first hand!

    Funny...

The older I get, the less impressed I am with watching people beat the :poop: out of each other.

As far as Stang's comment... I took it in the context with which I believe he intended...

He even qualified his remark by saying:

I took it as... Since Asians are generally considered (or stereotyped) as being martial arts experts, that it was cool to see one get beat by a non-Asian.

No matter how good you think you are... Or how good you actually are... There is always someone, somewhere that can show up on any given day & do better.

Example... The New England Patriots...
    [IMG]

One thing that is usually lacking in internet forums such as this is the ability to always take things in the context that was intended by the original poster. Hell it's difficult enough when talking to someone face to face.

We all know how frustrating that can be... :scream:

Bottom line... We're all stoners. Sometimes it is hard enough to form a coherent sentence when you're stoned.

What may make perfect sense to the person writing the post, may not translate well to everyone who reads it.

That's how most arguements start... Simple misunderstandings...

I am of Asian decent, but I was born and raised in the U.S. so I've always considered myself an American. I've had to deal with racial issues my entire life. MOST people can look past race and see the person, especially stoners, but every once in a while I get shit from some jerk in a bar because I married a white woman.

Yes, I studied martial arts when I was younger (stereotype? LOL), and even though I am older and out of shape, I can still put down a drunken slob.

Perhaps I was being a bit too sensitive earlier (and see mods? I kept it civil), but the way it was worded rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe if stangman_1976 had writen, "It was way cool to see that Taiwan (or Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or whatever) guy get stomped into the ground by an American," I would have felt better. In fact, I would even agree with THAT statement. LOL! This eliminates the whole racial element and makes it more of a National Pride thing.

Now, if the "oriental guy" was also an American and Stangman was happy to see him get stomped because he has Asian blood, then, yes, it was a racist comment.

    Symantics

:ebert:I realise that Stang and i personally didnt take your post in any other manner apart from what was meant, but it COULD be misconstured/misunderstood by others to be a racial slur,iv seen ppl burst a blood vessel for less put it thatway, lol,i try repeat my forum mantra at times like that by saying dazechains signature out loud "IT'S ONLY A SCREEN,IT'S ONLY A SCREEN" I know what was meant STANG:wink:,just i saw how it could EASILY have been taken the wrong way, like i said it was just summit i was pointing out,no biggie..no neg rep or reported bad postings, etc, lol, just a friendly piece of advice from one who has had his posts taken the wrong way in the past:icon_wink:peace:potleaf:

This is true,as fellow MOD wawona recently said in a thread in smokers lounge(redbeards "i dont no what to do anymore") ..SYMANTICS are sometimes lost in translation when it comes to reading/writing on a forum.Ppl will take what they want from reading anothers post, sometimes i have posted on a topic and only cos someone has PM'd me have i realised that they have taken what i said WAAAY out of context or totally the wrong way in which it was intended, etc. It happens all the time, especially on a potheads:jj: forum:icon_lol: Peace y'all:bongin:

PS: AB:alien: Your 'CIVILNESS':icon_wink: is duly noted:icon_lol:peace amigo :ebert:

    Ahhhh, Cultural Diversity...

I have relatives that are from the Phillipines, and currently living in Korea. I also have a Pakistani in-law that is a non-practicing Muslim. I am an Atheist.

I haved lived overseas and travelled to many foreign countries.

I myself am part American Indian... A VERY small part, but I'm still part Indian. Even though I "look" completely caucasian.

Going further back in my family tree, I'm also part Irish, German & French as well. That only proves one thing... People love to screw & make babies. :)

Most Americans wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Philipino, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc...

Most Americans have no understanding of Asian culture beyond going to a Chinese restaurant & eating vegetable lo mein, or Singapore noodles with their orange chicken, and getting their fortune cookie with their check.

Most Americans wouldn't know that in some Asian cultures, patting one of their children on the head (a commonly accepted affectionate gesture here) is an insult. Petting a child like a dog.

Or that when you are speaking to a group of Asians, it is generally polite to address your comments to the eldest male of the group, regardless if he speaks English or not. (showing respect to an elder)

The common misconception is that Asians are generally lumped into the martial arts category. Although it is popular part of the culture... Not every Asian is another Bruce Lee.

    The list goes on...

That is the main point I'm trying to make.

People type things without meaning to belittle others, but either through a poor choice of words, cultural ignorance, or the simple ramblings of a stoner, etc... Statements are sometimes taken the wrong way and that is what starts a lot of shit. No offence to you or anyone else, but our society is becomming too thin skinned, and political correctness is a load of :poop:

No matter what you do you will offend someone, somewhere.

Different people see things in different ways. We all need to be aware of that.
    :)

Ah dont get me started on the P.C Brigade, lol,i'll be here all night!

No where else is political correctness bigger than in the UK:sad4::5sigh:.Honestly they have fuckin laws for everything these days, protecting every religon, race and ethnic group apart from the original inhabitants of the UK:disgust:
They have BANNED nativity plays in schools in case they offend muslims and thats not a personal thing that makes me angry but its one example of how years and years of tradition MUST now be changed just cos the PC BRIGADE thinks thats the way things should be,in fact there is a whole host of shit they have changed in this country so not to offend our huge pakistani muslim immegrants/popualtion.. now the thing that annoys me is,most of the muslims who you actually talk to will tell you that they were never really offeneded by any of this shit in the 1st place! Its the P.C BRIGADE who are constantly crusading on other ppls behalfs, most of the ethnic minorities dont want all this p/correcntess cos it makes them stand out as if they are different when really all they wanna do is integrte themselves into society, etc.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS HAS GONE CRAZY THATS FOR SURE... and if you aint going long with it then you are made out to be a racist or some shit so enevitably you end up buying into all this political correctness even if you dont mean to.POLITICAL CORRECTNESS is just a fancy term for "your government will tell you what to say and think" aka PROPOGANDA or "thought police" like outta the novel 1984.

Theres a site i saw recently and i will try and find it again,it showed you ALL the recent changes in UK laws to accomadate all these POLITICAL CORRECTNESS laws, some are sensible but the majority are plain crazy and even the ppl who they are meant to protect dont want these laws...the UK is P.C CRAZY:bduh:peace:jj:

Personally....I don't like the idea of fighting for sport or any other kind of fighting for that matter. I just see no sense in it to be honest. Fighting to me is something that should be of last resort after every other posibilty has been exhausted. I guess some people just have something to prove...whether it's to themselves or to someone else. I've been in my fair share of fights and the one thing I've realized is that there's never a winner. Sorry guys, but to me it's nothing more than insecurity at it's finest. Takes far more to be a 'man' than just being able to beat the shit out of someone. But hey...that's just me. :suave:

Im more of a BOXING fan TBH...

Iv watched quite a bit of MMA and UFC type stuff cos i pick it all up on cable tv over here in the UK same with wrestling, etc.I used to like watching ken shamrock and tito artise fights but thats just cos i knew ken shamrock from his wrestling days and as a kid growing up me and my lil bro used to love watching WWF/WWE and WCW/ECW,etc wrestling on tv,lol!

Im more of a boxing lover myself,i guess boxing is a blood sport the same as MMA but i like to think of it as a little more noble, lol,'queensbury rules' and all that stuff.Boxing is a great way to keep fit and its all about poise,co-ordination,balance and of course strength, etc.I love watching all the clasic 'ALI' and 'foreman' fights aswll as other greats like rocky marciano and jake la motta.. i could go on and on not even including all the mexican and cuban greats plus theres been a few british and scotish legends in the fight game.I have noticed that the MMA scene in america seems to be mega huge,it hasnt taken of over here that big, i dont think anything will ever take over the place of boxing over here, its like football(soccer),its summit thats bred into us at an early age.

I too have been in my fair share of fights over the years, some you win some you lose...any one can beat any one else on any given day,it only takes a lucky punch. My mrs is a black belt in karate believe it or not, lol,i was surprised when i realsied that one, lol, although thankfull shes never had to 'demonstrate' her martial arts prowess on me....YET!:icon_lol:peace:bongin:

I try not to jump in on these kind of topics very often. However, Herb with respect, MMA is alot more than just "fighting" for spot. Are their knuckleheads with something to prove, sure. Do kids get into now for the wrong reasons..absolutely! But I have trained for quite some time in a couple different disciplines..and it is just that training,an ongoing journey to master someting. knowing full well you never will. And, to watch two very skilled and technical

jiu jitsu fighters go round and round is truly an a amazing thing to watch. But I will agree that any fight should be as a last resort....:smokin: peace...b4e

It's all good my man. I can respect discipline of any kind. In fact...it's that 'discipline' you speak of that sets those like you apart from the others I refer to. All too often it's the 'ego' side of things that gets glorified in our society.....that's the part that truly gets me down. Now....to have two guys 'go at it' as you say, without beating each other's brains in is fine by me, but there has to be limits. 'Sparing' as I've seen quite often in most martial arts dojos is not what I'm refering to. When it's taken to the extreme for 'profit'...that's where I draw the line. To me that's using the 'art' in the wrong manner. To truly master something is to control it 100% and use it ONLY WHEN NEEDED. I can't stress that enough. I just feel that most often the people fighting in these types of sports are doing so for the wrong reasons. That starts to give it all a bad rep.

BTW....I meant no offence to anyone...just giving my 2 pennies based on my own lifetime of experiences. I've done my fair share of 'ass kicking' and I'm not proud of it. I've since learned how to control my own self and that's taken far more self-discipline than unleashing my strengths on another....far more. To quote Yoda....."Great warrior? Wars do not make one great".

I can assure you I am no fan of political correctness, nor do I have thin skin (It's quite fat in fact). It's just that I have put up with some shit because of my skin color in the past and I wanted to get an idea where Stangman was coming from.

Anyway, it's all good. Stangman says he meant no disrespect, so I'm cool with that.

Now back to the original topic....

I've never watched the MMA so I can't comment too much, but I'm sure it would be way cool to watch an asian guy stomp the shit out of some white boy. :tvlaugh:
