Will pruning lower bud sites help out by letting the plant use resources it would have used to make those popcorn buds for the upper buds, or would i just be missing out on some extra buds.

most people will prune those lower branches to allow more growth up top.

I only prune parts of the plant that get no or very little light. It depends on the room your plants have and the amount of light.

As long as the lower branches are getting light leave them be, or train them to grow in light filled areas.

    Does yelling at them work?

I prune a crap load off the bottom. I hate popcorn buds. They're a registered pain in the ass when it comes to manicuring and don't produce much anyway. Prune the bottom branches and let the plant concentrate on the big buds up top.

Pruning lower, less significant branches, allow's for better air flow.

I did a comparison of two clones grown in the same conditions - one left to grow naturally, and the other one with all the popcorn branches removed.

The natural one had a higher yield because of all the popcorn buds, but the pruned one was easier to trim.

if ya have enough plants that's worth pruning right there in my opinion

I cut all the skrawny branches off the plant. The remaining branches grow top-notch buds and they are huge compared to a untrimmed plant. Way easier to prune.
