Alright...Everyone has inspired me to at least TRY a hempy grow. It seems easy enough. Here's my plan and some questions for you fellow hempy growers.

I was going to get those "Walmart Hempy" pots that I have been seeing around. They look perfect. I was going to start in a small one and transplant to a 2-3 gallon one. I understand it is best to start the seeds in a rapid rooter or something like that. I plan on going 4parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite. I have some questions also.

    Questions.....
    1. Do you have to have a Ph meter for this? I know its best but is it possible to do it without?

    2. Do Fox Farms soil nutes work for this?

    3. How long can you go without watering these puppies?

    4. Do you feed with every watering or do you alternate it?

I have others just cant think of them..

You should try it man. It's pretty awesome.

    1. You know you need a pH meter. You could try just throwing your nutes in at whatever pH it is, and see how a plant responds... I'd start with a bagseed before using a more expensive bean... but hey! It could work... who knows?

    2. I dunno, you probably need some hydro nutes, but you should try what you have... See what happens!

    3. Depends on how thirsty your plant is, how hot it is in the grow room, etc... because there is always some evaporation, too.

Generally you can go 2-3 days between waterings from what I've seen in mine.

    4. I give plain water every third feeding.. just to flush the roots out a little. We'll see how this regimen works out, I might need to adjust that one way or the other. :)

Try it man!! And get a pH meter... Money well-spent.

    Thanks doob...

I have/had a ph meter. I dont really know where it is. It was one of those hanna meters and it sucked. I could never get it right. I dont think it works anymore but I will look for it. What brand do you have for ph meter and ppm meter?

I almost forgot...I went out and bought 3 of those walmart hempy pots. I got 2 of the little ones that are like 6'' and I got 1 of the big 11'' ones that are probably 3 gallon. I also got some perlite. I was proactive today!

Sorry Dude! Meant to answer earlier, but The Destroyer needed attention...just got in from work.

#1 Yes, you need a pH meter! Sombud and I bought the exact same meter, from Ebay, for around $30 If you can't swing that, just get a kit at WM, HD, L's...you need to be able to check pH.

#2 Not sure if soil nute's would be wise, unless it's MG!!!

#3 What I do, on the advice of another and my own experience, is: wether you fill the resevoir immediately, or wait alittle...

feed seeding's just enough to be sure to soak the root's. When She hit's the resevoir(and you'll know it!), feed NUTES every 2-3 day's. I've found that some(strain, size, etc.)will drink in 2 day's, and some in 3. When I decide which to go with(more than one plant, obviously)...that's it. F that remembering which is 2 and which is 3! That can get like Chinese arithmetic! If you start with the new WM Hempy's, it'll make it so much easier to know when.

    I think my #3 answer's you 3&$

Hope that's any more help to you

btw; I'd rather see you using a simple "dropper' meter and invest in some hydo nute's

    later :affro:

    No problemo, Cap.

My pH meter is the Milwaukee pH600, which I paid about $20 for on Ebay.

My ppm meter is the Hanna TDS1, which I paid $12 for on Ebay...

Both of these are the most inexpensive meters made by each company.

You'll need calibration solutions for both, but it's not too expensive, either.

    thanks guys.

Looks like I will have to buy a new meter. I am not sure if I am going to start this now or in a month or so because I will be gone for 5 days or so. I guess I could give them a bigger res for a couple days while gone tho...

This whole hydro thing is new to me. Kinda exciting!

Perilite retain's moisture, so if you fill 'em up....

Ya that is the least of my worries I guess. That is easy to take care of.

So what do you guys start your seeds in? Those rapid rooters?

Honestly, I germ mine in the wet paper towel, then when I see a tail, it goes right in the perlite. Keep it moist, and a couple days later there's a little baby hempy.

    I've not done it...

I don't have one that's why I've not tried it.

azgrownsmoke told me that he used the FF soil nutes with good results but he emphasized the PH adjustment.

PH meter is the next thing on my list but may be a few weeks...

cappy, i use rapid rooters, fox farm hydro nutes, 3-5 gal containers (hydrofarms are great for hempy) and water every other day with fresh nutes mixed into a day-old gallon of water.

since i've been growing hydro all along, i know the pH of my tap water after it sits for a day is about where it should be and adding the nutes brings the pH down more. i haven't had to use my hanna pH meter at all lately with hempy.

i'm trying to get away from the FF nutes, but i've been consistently using them for the past 6 years and i have had no problems with them. my hydro guy said any organic nutes loose their strength over time. a year from purchase is probably ok, but 2 years is really pushing it. he isn't a fan of FF - never has been, but he agrees that i have had success with it.

the hydrofarm units take about 4 8 oz cups of nutes every other day. my plants that i've started from seed take about 1/2 of an 8 oz cup of nutes every other day.

get a plan and start it and be consistent. it really is easy. :)

    good luck!

Thanks everyone. I DID find my ph meter. Its one of those white hanna meters. I hope it still works, just needs new batteries.

Do they sell calibration solution at any stores? Like a pool store or a science store?

If you can't find any, in a pinch you can use fiji or evian water. They label the ph right on the bottle

Smarmy my man...GOOD THINKING. Maybe I will try that this evening, just to see if the damn thing works still.

After seeing Sombud's hempy harvest and Mr G's beautiful hempy grows, I have also caught the bug. Im going to work on putting together a couple hempy buckets this week. I already have the clones. Im gonna try to just rinse the dirt off the roots and drop em into the perlite. I also have some clay pellets laying around I havent used in a while. I was wondering, if I rinse these off real good, can they be used in the hempy bucket, or would u recommend the perlite?

I start seeds in rapid rooters or jiffy starters. I tend to buy a couple bucks worth whenever I see them, so I've always got them on hand. It's just a really convenient way to start them off.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how well Hempy's adapt to other plants? Like tomatoes for example?
