I know perlite is used in many hydro applacations but can it be used in a drip system? The only reason why I ask this is beacuse I plan on running my drip 24/7 and I know perlite holds water better then hydroton and im concerned about root rot.

I am planning out my next grow and seeing what hydro can do Vs soil I want all my plants to be in hydro next time and perlite is cheaper then hydroton. I plan on also doing a hempy bucket this time.

hi, nilzar! here's my opinion ... go directly to hempy and do not bother with the drip system for the waterfarm.

i grow in waterfarms and i fill them with 3-4 parts perlite and 1 part vermiculite and use my FF hydro nutes exactly to their schedule. all that is required is watering with the nutes every other day.

your plants will love it! and, so simple i could cry. pix soon to prove it. :smokin:

I woud prefer the hydroton, cuz I can clean it and reuse it.I've had the same 2 bags of hydroton for 5 years. Perlite is a pain in the ass to remove all the roots. If you are gonna run it 24/7 , hydroton would be better.

I am doing a waterfarm vs soil experiment now and I am using hydroton I also modified the basket by enlarging the holes to just a lil smaller than a hydroton I also added a bubbler stone and man I can tell ya 3-4 times the vigor and growth of the same clone in soil. she is in early flower and just going to be huge I can tell. I am using pure blend pro nutes so its mostly organic

Well I think I will pick up some perlite and run a hempy bucket and two waterfarms with the hydroton and one with the perlite. I have to take some clones in the next week so I will see how they do side by side.

here's my proof, nilzar! i got the same sized colas with hydro, but i think hempy can't be topped!

I would say that the perlite IMO would be more of a chance of root rot. Hydroton is the way to go with the waterfarms. The thing about hydroton is it is better than perlite. As stated by army it is reusable. I have also been using the same for a couple yrs. Man wish you lived close, I got a 50lbs. bag just sitting around collecting dust.
