my plants are now almost 5 weeks into flowering, i kinda really want to sample the bud, but im worried about shocking my plant into a hermie, my friend repotted the male i gave him and i guess he was a little ruff when he did it and now the plant is a hermaphrodite:icon_confused: i was thinking about cutting off a branch of secondary growth that is growing out of the third node from the bottom. do you guys think it is safe to do this
I would wait longer than 5 weeks to sample anything of the plant, maybe a week or two. Also, you gave your friend a male and it hermied? I think you have it backwards or something. And what did you entend on doing with this male? breeding?
i was gonna sentence it to death by machete, but instead i gave it to my friend, and he takes care of it for fun i guess, but yeah this plant is def a hermie, and looks to be almost 100% sativa (extremely skinny, serrated leaves), it has "balls on a rope" yet it also has white hairs coming out of the tops. it has some budding going on but the buds dont look anything like the buds on my other two indica females, the buds are "running" and are very spindly, and there arnt alot of bud sites for how bushy the plant is. but yeah it was def. showing signs of male before i gave it to my friend, and i was checking it out today and there are now hairs coming out of the tops, he said those showed up 2 weeks ago after he repotted it. im just worried the same thing will happen to my females if i subject them to the shock of chopping off one of their secondary growth branches i'll take some pics next time im at his house.
It's 'safe'. Clean, quick *snip*. The plant will never know. Of course, 'sampling' is really just a euphemism for "I WANNA SMOKE SOME OF MY WEED!!"! Yes, the waiting IS the hardest part!! Go for it! Just like Skunky says tho' too. Don't get yer hopes TOO high; it'll get better!! Enjoy! :qbluewacko:
wwboy it wont hurt the plant---maybe even boost the remaining upper buds growth--outdoor plants suffer a great deal of damage at times and those come back stronger than ever most times--no hermi cause of the lost limbs.
I think it would be a waste of weed. Unless the bud is not getting any light I would leave it on. I sampled some of my first kind bud grow, and it disappointed the hell out of me. Barely gave me a buzz and this was white widow. I personally think you should wait until its ready to be harvested.

i did it lolz, i cut the top off of a branch that is secondary growth coming out of the third node from the bottom, it smells damn good. but that could change once it is dried i guess ( i think ). it was a little top, only about 2 bowls, but yeah in one week from now once its dry i can finaly get a idea. im so excited!
If it's a Sativa you may not even be half way through flowering yet, so sampling it now will do nothing but give you a headache.
Good luck with the sampling. It is a couple weeks earlier to be sampling though. Wont be close to the finished product
hehe its tempting to just microwave it and smoke it now, but ive done that before and it made the weed well, just didnt taste like weed, so ima cure it for a week, maybe tommorow i might try to "water" cure it lolz, i wanna see if it actually turns black.
I would often take the buds from the bottom of the plant early and smoke them when I was out of weed. It sure beats the hell outta paying some douche bag for weed that is nowhere as good as what I was growing in my basement.
Dont' water cure it man. Just let it dry on it's own for a few days and it will be good to smoke just not cured good. Water curing fucking ruins the product. I tried if not long ago after reading soo much about it and this one guy claiming it yielded good cured buds faster and all that. Didn't do shit but take ALL of the flavor and smell away.
I had to chop down 4 plants and half of one because of enviormental affects, the oldest was around 5 weeks old. I sampled it and it got me high, taste good, but the high wasnt as potent as if it was finished thats for sure.
Best Way I've been out of weed for most of this grow. What worse is spending time on GrowKind seeing lots of tasty smoke really increases the desire, so I have been sampling my plant for the past week or more. It seems to be getting stronger by the day. At first it just made me tired, but the past two days I really have started to get high. I just put the fresh popcorn bud (I couldn't bear to break into one of the serious buds) right in the whip and vaporize at slightly higher than normal temperature. After a few long draws the bud is dry. I twist it up in the grinder and revape at the normal temp. The taste is very fresh and clean, way better than smoking quickly dried buds, and definitely effective. I had to ask a friend to pick me up something so I won't seriously cut into my yield.
