This idea was taken from Pipedream's thread on ICMag. He used ground-up bud, which is not the same thing as hash. I used pure White Widow kif (resin glands in powdered form) Items needed: Makin's Professional Ultimate Clay Extruder and some kif hash... Use the 2 discs with the smallest openings. The larger one will go in the bottom of the end cap, with the smaller one on top of it. Screw the cap on and remove plunger from top of tube Sprinkle some kif on piece of paper Fold the paper and funnel the powder into top of tube Put plunger back in and turn handle until it is snug. Heat the tube with a hairdryer or portable heater. Turn the handle a little bit tighter every minute or so, keeping it heated between tightenings. Repeat this process until it is as tight as possible without breaking the unit Loosen handle and remove end cap, then tighten handle to push out a dime-sized piece of hard hash It is easy to store and use in this form - just tear off a piece and put in the pipe/vaporizer
One thing I do is put my press in a baggie and drop that into boiling water for a few minutes at a time while I press it. But yeah, hairdryer....less messy.... Try it out peeps. You can get a press at your local head shop, as well as the grinder for the keif. Cheap and easy way to make a great edition to your bowl!
You can get them retail at JoAnn Fabrics. They have a big craft section. I think they were about $12 last I looked.
Making kif I made the kif using a 74 micron screen purchased on e-bay, stretched tight over a large bowl. Material was slightly ground up with a quick touch on the coffee grinder switch, then sifted through the screen to remove glands which fall into the bowl in powder form.
Dude that's cool you can it the dime in there. So you could put one on the cap too if you wanted to block that little hole. HAHA or you could put different sides of the coin on each side and press the hash and have some hash dime pieces, that would be kinda cool. That's probably what res was getting at besides size.
Pipedream shows an 'imprinted' dime in his thread. In the same DIY topics is Oldtimers hashpress using a small hydraulic jack. That would be the tool for the 'hash dollars' Some day.....
crappy hash I have gad two problems with my hash press, the first one is that my hash always sticks to the plastic spacers and when I try to get it out it breaks up and is no longer like "hash". The second is that it just won't compress enough I've tried leaving it in over night heating it all kinds of stuff, maybe that batch came from crappy Kiff. I was told that if your kiff is not high quality you can add a drop or two of high content alcohol aka vodka I guess *shrugs* anyone heard of this or tried it? I would imagine that it would be unsafe to smoke vodka vapors but what do I know. I will report later after I finish collecting kiff from this batch of MUCH higher quality chronic.
From Pipedream's thread... "the better the quality of your starting material, and the finer its ground, the less heat and pressure it will require to hold together. If you choose to use pure sifted glands, virtually no heat will be required. And, if your material is not as good as you wish it was, adding one drop of ISO or Olive Oil per gram of material inside the press will help it hold together better"
thanks thanks that's what I wanted to know, might try the oil seems safer then the ISO, I'm going to try and find a smaller mesh screen then the one that's in the bottom layer of my grinder that might help also. Thanks again for the info
No heat needed I've made a few batches since this thread was created. I no longer use heat. I crank it down tight, let it sit for a day, tighten it up again then let it sit for another day, then remove the hard dense chunk of hash.
I posted that link a couple of years ago (I don't feel like looking for the thread), but here are some picks of my results. I thought it would be fun to put my initials on them too.
