Hello gang. I just found out that I'm moving in less than 2 months(August 12). I think my plants are mature enough to go into flowering. They've had about 70 days to veg. If I put them into flowering 12/12 starting tonight/tomorrow, I'll have 40-50 days in flowering. I know that's not long enough, but maybe that will at least be enough flower time for me to get a chance to sex plants for the first time. I wanted to wait longer in veg and flower cycles but I'm outta time. What sort of immediate prep might I be able to do in order to get them into 12/12 flowering w/in the next 24 hours?
Will Do Roger that. Stand by: preparing to turn switch...3...2...1>>> 12/12 switch engaged. If I do identify any females, I'll donate them to my neighbor/landlord. She's got the green thumb for sure. She'll see them through, clone successfully, buy the necessary gear etc. However, out of these 3 plants from bag seed, I have a feeling that there are gonna be 3 roosters in the hen-house. We'll see.
Maybe but if not you should be able to presex them now, Your at 70 day veg? I only did a 7 week one your at 10 weeks. Anywy you can always take them and set them out somewhere.
If I had to guess, just from the pics I've seen and descriptions I've read, all 3 are males. Though I haven't seen any evidence of pollen balls, but I haven't seen any pistils either. I can sex these w/out a 12/12 flowering phase? How? Just eye-ball it or look at it through a magnifying glass?
Man I don't know what strain u got goin but 54 days is long enough that I wouldn't plan on giving that away just yet....especially if I vegged for that long.
male characteristics I've been looking around those nodes and I don't see the formation any little pollen balls. Then again, I don't see anything that looks like pistils either.
Give Em 36 Hours Darkness Before Going 12/12 By Doing This You Will Speed Up The Flowering Cycle Also Going 11 On , 13 Off Will Shave Another Couple of Weeks Off Your Harvest Time ( Expect A Lower Yield - 10-20% Less ) All The Best JKP
Great, new info. I'd never heard of giving them 36 hrs darkness before going into flowering, but it's a practice that makes complete sense to me, given every thing else I've read. Thank you for that tip, especially since it might help with my time crunch. Also, I didn't know about an option of going 11/13, but again, it make sense and sounds like it will be really helpful. I ordered a 400W HPS last night. I'm out of town from tomorrow and the 27th. It will arrive while I'm gone, so I'll have to wait to hook it up until after I get back. This will give me right around 40 days of flowering under the 400 and the 2 150s. Should I also leave the 150s on in conjunction w/the 400? I've been trying to identify the sex of the plants using the pre-flower method suggested. I don't have a magnifying glass, so maybe that's why I couldn't see or ID anything. I was looking right at those nodes and all around them. You know, El Campesino was right: if you look at that growth or those nodes long enough, you can convince yourself that you're seeing pistils. If plants have not developed alternating nodes, does that mean they are not mature enough to go into flowering? My plants have no alternating nodes.
I would think at 70 days of vegging you woud have alternating nodes. It is a sign that they are mature. How many nodes are on the plants?
Scotty- Just checked your pics. Flower away, they're plenty big. I run all the light I can during flower. The 400w alone is MORE than adequte but IMHO the additional 150's can't hurt. JKP- Right on! Great advice on light schedule. At 12/12 he harvests immature buds with a lesser weight. With 13/11 he gets a similar loss in weight but the buds are more mature. That about right? cheers,
Flowering OK, I've got the timers set for the "sun" to come up at 8:00am and sunset is at 7:00pm. I'll be out of town from tomorrow until 06/27. I have a trustworthy friend taking care of them while I'm gone. When I get back, I'll put the 400W on them w/the 150s for 40 days and we'll see what happens. I think my 2nd oldest may be female. I could swear I see pistils around the alternating nodes on that one. These 2 oldest plants have alternating nodes on the branches that formed from LST...at least as best I can tell. The LST created so much growth and dense bushiness that it's kind hard to move all the foliage out of the way to even find the original stalk. These branches are big enough that I could take them as cuttings and clone. Only time will tell. I definitely appreciate the advice on switching up the lighting schedule w/a slight tweak from the 12/12. Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my pics, Res. I appreciate your input on them! I'll keep you lads posted. I'll post new photos as soon as I get back. I was wondering if I should raise my lights before I go.
All Males Damn. All 3 of my plants are males. I posted some new pics. I was out of town for 11 days and my buddy only watered them once, so they leaves are a little crispy, but they are perking up. I don't suppose it matters now. But again, this was a practice grow to learn all I could.
All Male What's up gang? After 11 days of flowering, even I can see that all 3 plants are male. But this was a practice grow. I tried to post the most recent pics, but I can't seem to get the upload page to work. I'll try again later to post up the pics.
Ahh... that sucks, still flower them. Save the pollen from the hardiest of them. Good breeding stock.
