I don't know how many of you use a pH pen, but I just bought Hanna's combo pen at the local hydro shop. Also, picked up some pH 4.01 & 7.01 buffer solution, some conductivity solution and cleaning solution. I walked out with out getting storage solution though. Will not using storage solution, screw with the electrodes in the pen? If you have any other tips on the function of the pen, it would be extremely helpful. Thanks
I dont know about the Hannas but I have a milwaukee sm802. The damn thing would burn the probe out after one grow. I called milwaukee and talked with one of their techs. He claimed something was plugging the probe and not to use the storage solution. He told me to keep the probe in a quart of spring water not distilled and to forget useing the storage solution. I have a Milwaukee pH pen and I don't use storage solution. I use a little of the 7.01 buffer solution in the cap. This is what was recommended in the instructions of my unit. It said to use the 7.01 buffer solution or the storage solution. I have had no problems. I even think I read somewhere that you can use some plain R/O water if you don't have either of the others. Since you have the 7.01 I would use that. :thumbs-up:
Ras - So using the pH buffer solution won't mess with the EC/TDS probe? Teamster - Is the sm802 a combo tester? I was looking at a Milwaukee, but the guy at the store talked me into the Hanna. He hooked me up with the solution packets and a pack of 1gal grow bags so I bought the Hanna.
get the storage solution. I have a Hanna. It's great, ive had no problems with it. Calibrate frequently. Do buy and use the storage solution. I also have a Milwaukee pen that was just a complete FAIL.
I don't know for sure, but I don't see why it would. My pen is not the combo so I can't say for sure. I thought the storage solution was just pH neutral water? You could probably use R/O water. My R/O water comes out at right around 6.5-7.0 and should be fine to store the probe in. When in doubt, I would contact the manufacturer for advice though. My Milwaukee works perfectly and I have had it for almost a year. It needs very infrequent calibration and has been extremely useful and accurate. Personally I love my Milwaukee! :thumbs-up: I plan on getting the matching TDS/EC pen as well.
Yes juggalo the sm802 is a three tester! So far doing what they told me I have not had any further problems. :beerchug-2: Teamster6
I sent Hannah's tech support an email and am waiting on a reply. I won't need to use it until tomorrow but if nothing else one or two uses shouldn't hurt using the 7.01 or spring water. Thanks for the help
