i just bought an hps light system, wooooooooo, finally. i am flowering right now, and i was wondering how far does the light go from the bulb untill it is no longer usefull to the plant in helping make buds. my plant is three feet tall. and the hps is a 250 watter. any help would be much appreciated.
I would tie the plant back/down. A 250w isn't going to penetrate very deeply. Haven't used one(250w), but if I had to guess, I would say as close as possible. Maybe 6 to 8 inches with a fan on. I've had a 400w that close with no problem. Thats my 2.
Hey Bluntman, i agree with WTF on this one. but also in the future you should consider jogging, more effective with a 250 watt'r
I too am running a 250w HPS and I have jogged my plant. I am on day 15 of 12/12 and I have about 25 little buds all on a horizontal plane, all no more than 12" from the light. However, some are pretty close,as in 3-4", but I have a very powerful fan on them so I know temps aren't a problem. Anyways, does anyone think this is too close? I've heard of people giving their plant too much light and I don't want to do that. Thanks for the replys.
joker, just watch if it starts ta burn em, raise it up. but i have had my buds close before too, just kept the temp down and they were fine. and its only a 250 watt right? so i think you will be fine but i wouldnt go any closer (Edited by Greengrowhydro at 11:44 am on Feb. 13, 2004)
i got the hps about 4 inches from the top of the plant and i got a flouro running along the side of it. it is pretty close to the plant.i have a fan on the plat but it is not doing to much because i need to have a towel hanging up to keep any light out and there isnt any more room in the grow area for the fan. so basically it is just blowing in the direction. also my bulb just broke(fucken new system and already need new bulb) where can i get one at a good price cause i dont want to drive all the way to get one. does home depot carry these?
Hey there. >>my bulb just broke(fucken new system and already need new bulb) Contact the company and tell them it was defective. They should replace it, no problem. I have had bulbs come already and the were broke into pieces when I opened them up. All I did was contact the company and they immediately sent me a new one, no questions asked. >>where can i get one at a good price cause i dont want to drive all the way to get one. does home depot carry these? I am almost sure that Home Depot does NOT. Try my idea out and see how it goes. If that doesn't do it, you'll either have to order one by mail, or find yourself a handy dandy grow shop. FYI, its always good to have a backup bulb for times like this. Its a pain in the ass to have it break in the middle of flowering and then have to scramble to figure out what your gonna do. Buy a backup, its a great investment. Until then, keep some sort of light on it. Thats my 2 buddy. WTF
i got a new bulb at home depot, 20 bucks. i was going to get a new free one but i didnt want to drive 2 hours again to pick it up. besides 20 buck that not too bad,
