just curious to see which way people around here swing , as far nutrients/medium goes... do you grow indoors or outdoors? liquid or granular nutes? what brands? are you using DWC or SWC? NFT or Ebb & Flow? coco or soil? are you organic? what's in your mix? do you compost? what's in it? do you brew compost teas? what's your recipe? i'm indoor and with the exception of TM-7 and Azomite, all of my nutrients are liquid. i use Organic Gem, liquid kelp/seaweed, compost tea, molasses, saponin extract, phytic acid, fulvic acid and i mix my own solutions of CaCO3 and MgCO3. i just got some of the 12.5 liter Superoots Air-Pots which i've been using my coco mix in, it is as follows: (12.5 liters) 1.25 liters Denali Gold Alaskan Humus 2.5 liters biochar 3.75 liters lava rock cinders 5 liters Botanicare CocoGro i started vermicomposting almost a year ago and i've been composting some herbs i'm growing atm. my worms are on a strict diet, they eat mostly baby oatmeal and used coffee grounds. but i started growing nettle, red clover, comfrey, chamomile, alfalfa, echinacea, flax, dandelion and milk thistle, all will become part of my worm compost soon. which brings me to compost tea which also is as follows: 10 ml organic black strap molasses 20 ml Ecklonia Maxima liquid kelp 40 ml Ascophyllum Nosodosum liquid seaweed 70 ml HP2 liquid bat guano 150 ml Azomite .5 liters special blend vermicompost
[i love worms. Good on ya. However, I grow in perlite, HEMPY style, with the addition of small pumps to re-circulate nutes. I used Botanicare for a couple of years and am now trying Canna Substra. May go back to the Botan after this grow. I run two 600 w. HPS. Dixie
stay away from granular nutes. because they're slow release, you cannot control your levels, and you end up with shit all over the place. You have no idea when they will 'release' and if you need to correct something, by the time you see it, it needs to be attended to asap, and granular just takes too long to break down to do that. I'm switching to some form of hydro when i get my new setup - haven't decided which avenue I will take for nutes.... GTWT :XXhippylove:
I'm indoors. My moms are kept in 5 gal. Smart Pots filled with Roots Organics 707 Potting Soil. I feed them with General Organics Nutrients at the moment. They are under 2, 1k watt MH lamps. Passive intake cooled by an 8" Can Fan with passive intake. 400 watt T12 Fluorescent fixture for clones. Do my clones in rock wool starter plugs then veg them in 3x3 rock wool blocks in an Ebb N Flow system until they are moved to the flowering room. The flowering room is 5, 1k watt HPS lamps. 2, 4'x8' flood tables each with 2 lamps and 100 gal res for each table (overkill I know, I only fill them to 60-70 gal.) The 5'th light is in a closet attached to the main flower room and is for soil grown plants at the moment. I use 2 gal. smart pots and put the plants in 3x3 rock wool blocks into the smart pots and fill them in with hydroton. The tables are covered over with Panda Film to block light. The walls are lined with Panda Film. The lights are cooled by 2, 6" centrifugal fans. The room is sealed and there are 2 XL carbon scrubbers, 1 on the lights outside the room and one inside the room recirculating in room air. The room is cooled by an 18.5k BTU Window A/C unit. Co2 enrichment via 2, 50 lb. Co2 tanks and C.A.P. Regulator. Atmospheric control is by Sentinel Model CHHC-4 total environmental controller which controls the temp via the A/C unit and a 1500 watt Ceramic space heater, and control's the Co2 levels with Fuzzy Logic setting. Nutrients for flowering are General Hydroponics Flora 3 Part with MOAB (Mother Of All Blooms) bloom booster. I follow the Useless feed schedule. asssit:
cheers everyone. looks like there are a lot of hydro users here at GK, i've been planning a transition to hydro for sometime now. i want to setup a shallow water culture/coco hybrid system, using the 12.5 liter Air-Pots as net pots. i wouldn't submerse the coco in water, only the roots once they grow through to the bottom of the Air-Pot (see picture), where they will be suspended over a 20+ gallon reservoir with an ultrasonic atomizer above the water and a double membrane diffuser below the water. can anyone see how this may pose a problem?

Too advanced for me to offer any advice. I'm new to hydro and I'm still doing it old school. Ebb N Flow tables SOG style. Someone here should be able to offer some advice though. You might want to start a new thread specifically for that question in the hydroponics forum if you don't get an answer in this one. It sounds interesting to me though. asssit: :thumbs-up:
Gonna be keeping an eye for your grow Cauldron. Sounds like we have the same philosophy on growing. You're admittedly more advanced than where I am though.
Is the ultrasonic atomizer you're using the same one that's pictured? The pic looks like a high pressure nozzle of some sort. The ultrasonic fogger/atomizers I'm familiar with add a good bit of heat to your nutrient solution so that's a consideration for you. How wide of a gap from pot to water were you planning on?
i went ahead and made a new thread for this in the hydro forum, as it's a little off topic. heya Kasier, i am aware of the common heat issues, one of the many reasons i'm saving for a chiller. i also looked into UVL cold foggers to solve that issue, but i don't know if i like the idea of fog, it sits too low in the rez from what i've gathered. i just grabbed a picture that was closest to what i'm looking for, i haven't made any purchases toward this project yet. the pots would be around 12" above the water, i'm trying to imitate the EZ Clone design. thanks for replies everyone. assit:
I duplicated the ez clone design on a large scale. It's decent for SOG but if you want the biguns do a 5 gal bucket rdwc setup. I just did 2 dry under 2 1kwr's and 6 buckets last harvest. I came no where near that with any combination I tried with the misting style tubs. Just my 2 cents...Steelcity Misting tubs I referred to http://www.growkind.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40076
