So as some of you already know, we recently lost 2 beloved members of our rather large pack of canine family members. One to a tragic freak accident, and another to a tragic illness. Both within 1 month of the other. After a brief but needed grieving period, we decided it was the best thing for us to add a new member to our pack. A new puppy is always a positive thing and brings out the love rather than the sorrow. We chose, after looking locally for breeds that we were interested in, a mix. He's American Bulldog/Boxer mix, his mom being the Boxer and father the American Bulldog. He is super cute. He smelled horrible when we got him, so immediately he got a bath and he's adjusting nicely. A name came quickly to us and he will be known as Magnus! A strong name for what should be a nice strong dog. I have been talking about wanting an American Bulldog, and we already have had Boxers and love them, so it was perfect when I found this mix. We payed $100 for him, which isn't bad considering that adoption fees at the shelters are upwards of $200+ these days. We are already house training and walking on leash. He's bright, active and playful. A perfect addition and eventually might be a good mate for our female Rednose Pitty. So I give you Magnus! He's 9 1/2 weeks old Born 3/25/11 Bath for the stinky puppy! :roffl: All fresh and clean and CUTE! asssit:
Yay! what a sweet baby!!! I'm envious - one of my most treasured things in all the world is puppy breath!!!! Congrats, happy for the Ganja family GTWT :XXhippylove:
Thanks guys.... We know exactly what you mean about the puppy breath! We love that about puppies. Well, I gotta jam out and get some puppy vaccinations and de-wormer for Magnus. Catch ya later! :thumbs-up: asssit:
Mr and Mrs Ganja congrats on the addition... hes so dang cute... he will be a happy and loving addition to your family... your pitty will have a great companion
Here are a few more pics of him. We're excited and want to share. I snapped these early this afternoon while we were chilling out in the driveway and yard. He's gonna fill in and hopefully be a good sized boy. He's a bit thin now, but we got him vitamins for skin and coat as well as multivitamins for puppies and we are transitioning him from Nutro Max Puppy (what he was already being fed) over to Wellness Puppy food and we're gonna deworm him. he should put on some weight. If his feet are any indication to how big he will be, then he's gonna be a big boy! He has some huge paws. Check out the right paw, he has 2 black nails on the outside. Anyway we already love the little guy so much. asssit:
Very nice dog bro! Yeah he is gonna be huge look at them paws on him man! My female Pit is prago again. I tried to prevent it but that little mofo is so determined lol.
My other dogs are all spayed and neutered. However, I grew up country on a farm and we always had baby animals. I miss that. We always were having puppies and kittens when I was young. We only want to maybe have one litter of pups,.... Maybe.... As for the Pit... If you saw his legs and the way he stands, you would definitely see the American Bulldog in him. he is thick boned and has the legs and stance of the american Bulldog. They are all bully breeds so they all mingle well. If he WAS pit I would be fine with that too, but I am fairly certain of his lineage.
Ras that's awesome bro! I've got an American Bulldog myself and they're great! I've posted some pics of him on here before... He's black and white and we adopted him from a shelter. He had a pretty rough first few months but he's livin large now. Lemme see if I can dig up a pic or two...
If we do neuter him it won't be until he is fully grown. We neutered our old boxer when he was young and I swear it stunted hi growth and development. A responsible dog owner can own a dog without having to spay or neuter, it's just more work for the owner, but IMO healthier for the animal.
PharmDoc! Sup bredren! Glad to hear from ya. That's a good looking boy ya got there. very handsome. I'm a fan of all bully breeds. They get a bad rap and I love showing people how lovable they can be.
Thanks Lion! he's definitely got our hearts all wrapped up! He will get as full and happy life as we can possibly offer him. The best food and care, lots of love and play time and hopefully a long and happy life with us. asssit:
OH! What a little PIE! I wanna EAT him up Im SO glad you got him...nothing helps ease the loss like bringing a NEW precious Life in. But....Ras....please consider NOT breeding him? I know, I know....YES the puppies would be great but....oh man....there's thousands of GREAT dogs pu to death every day just cuz there's too many of them. Just think about it, please? Another thing to consider is, neutered/spayed dogs live MUCH longer! I read that 80% of dogs found dead on the hiways are un-neutered males....jumped the fence cuz they smelled a gal in heat and just didnt see that car. If you neuter him before he's six months old, he wont even ever know what he's "missing". You'll be saving him from a LOT od fights, torn ears, scars, fence jumping and all the dangers of road running.... please at least consider it? What a great mix, tho--my two fave breeds in ONE doggy! I love the beauty and energy and playfulness of the Boxer...and the strength and personality of the pitty. Together? man, you cant beat that. Great name, too. Dix
I'm well aware of what "they" say about spaying and neutering. I know all the statistics too. Blah blah blah...... just because there are a lot of irresponsible people out there doesn't mean that if I breed him, I won't do the right thing and find the puppies homes myself and probably keep one for myself. Like I said, if I neuter him it will not e before he is full grown and mature. The males I have had neutered before they were mature have all seemed stunted compared to other siblings that were either neutered later in life or not neutered at all. Also I try to avoid anesthesia for my animals if I can. Anesthesia carries a TON of risk for all animals. We once had a dog spayed and when she came back, she was a different dog after coming out of the anesthesia. Pet overpopulation IS a problem and I am aware of it. I don't plan on having puppies for the purpose of making money or having a ton of puppies. I am not even 100% sure that I will breed him at all. But I may. One thing I do know. It's my decision. I will make it in the same way I make all my decisions. I will weigh the possible positives against the negatives an make what I feel is the responsible and right decision given the circumstances at that time. I would never just have puppies and dump them at the shelter or something like that. No matter, I don't really need to defend my choices. You either like it or not, and I appreciate your input, but I'll make my own choices. I think I am a responsible adult with a fairly decent head on my shoulders. I suppose it's like many things. Issues like this usually run either hot or cold with very little in between. I am one of the few that is in between, the gray area if you will. As a general rule I agree that most pets should be spayed or neutered, but if EVERYONE spayed and neutered ALL pets, then I would not have been able to get Magnus or any of my dogs for that matter. asssit:
