Imo, your kids would have a better memory of you spending time with them, rather than spending money on them. I raised 4. Ime. Think about your personal happiness 5-10 years down road, if you end up not liking it youll be feelin stuck because of the money. Maybe talk to your current boss. If he respects you he will respect you coming to him about it and might meet you in the middle somewhere with pay. I'm in construction and have been in similar sits. if I liked my job I talked to my boss about it, If not, I took the better op.
I recently took a new job and its turned out to be harder than i thought. But it pays better. I personally think im more suited to being a drug dealer, but my lass wont let me.

I dont get the whole golf thing either. I'm currently in the process of setting up a new accountancy firm and everyone assumes everyone else plays golf. So far, I havent met one person who actually play.
IMHO, I think you're a little nuts to give up 6 weeks of vacation to go to a more stressful job. I've worked in the "corporate" world and it was difficult to operate in that setting. :BangHead: I felt that no one valued my opinion, but when it worked out, they were all fast to claim it had been "their" idea. Yeah, lunch wasn't bad, but it was diff a Coke type lunch. I did find out some information that was both good and bad. The good is you get discounts on everything!! cellphones, applic, and they have their own credit lines and mortgages. The bad is... it's a FUCKING MACHINE!!! I swear it was like the Marines all over again, keep your head down and do as your told kinda place. I honestly don't think the job would be hard, I would be doing less work and being paid more, but I'd be giving tons of freedom for this. I asked about doing a trial week and they looked at me as if I had three heads. I suppose to hear back in a day or two but was told that normally they can arrange an extended tour (basically a one day trial) if requested. I spoke to my mother again about it and she said I'll make the correct decis, I always do. I spoke to my in laws and they were happy as hell. Father in law plays golf with a guy that works there and said the benefits are excel when you are management, and this is "my Chance to do something". Had a spat with the wifey on that.. pissed me off like what I'm doing know isn't good enough for their daughter. She doesn't work and we never had asked them for a dollar. I don't know, find out about the "tour" hopefully by wednesday. I'm suppose to contact HR for packets of information.. all this and I still don't if I'll take it. I brought up piss tests at lunch, asked "if I decide to take the post, do I just need to get a phsyical and urine sample from my doctor?" They have their own people for that and I need to contact HR for all of that. That's kinda got me worried, was planning on stopping if I have enough time, if I didn't, I was going to use my boys piss, don't know how to keep it warm for a couple of hours though.

Anytime you have a lunch meeting, unless they're already a confirmed alcoholic, it's best to stay away from alcohol. Even if he's just a social drinker, you look responsible and to some degree, they feel some quilt. Wether you realize it or not, it gets you abit of a 'leg up', IMO. I had a call first thing this am to set-up an interview. My buddy (new GK member) works for the county also and said the benifits are awesome. Union job. That's awesome MrAstro. The beer things comes from meeting with sales reps over the last decade. They always wanna drink, golf, and gawk at women out of their league. All in all, I think I'm leaning towards talking to my co about the issue. Maybe a raise or something to get me to stay. At this point I think spending time with my sons is ranking pretty high in the charts. It's nice to be able to leave because my son's sick even though my wife is a stay at home mom. I like being there for doctor appoint and things like that. I know I would be able to do this in a few years at a new job, but by then they'll be in school. I just wanna be debt free!!! Maybe I'll buy a lotto ticket. Hope things move quickly for you. I wouldn't list you current title as MOD on your resume though :thumbs-up:
Always best to avoid alcohol, unless you're 'in'. Definitely talk with your current. I moved here 6 yrs. ago to finish my intership (hated Philly). They offered me a job after about 10 mins. talking to me; even held-out for $5000 more. Soon find-out they're going thru a nasty soon-to-be seperated/divorce. The tension was horrible. He's starting to talk about retiring (early 50's). I'm so sick of it, I allow myself to be talked into a job at the med. center. I go in on a Fri. to give him my resignation and he took the kids to Hershey Park! I mention to his wife that I may not be back after next wk. She goes off, talking to me like dirt, and (after telling her what I thought) I walk. He never called, which I thought he might (now shakes my hand when I rarely see him). Only a few months later, I have a serious lung injury at work, they screw me, I'm out of work, and the douche that was interning when I left, bought the place. I fucked-up majorly by not going to my current boss and talking. Good Luck :thumbs-up:

Hey nippie: I haven't smoked since Mon. I have a job interview at our county prison tomorrow. Then 'she's on vacation next wk. She's not going to make a decision on-the-spot (but I'm taking my Quickfix with, just in case), so until she gets back and makes a decision, I should have atleast 2 wks. under my belt. Since THC binds to fat cells, the more fat, the longer it stays in your system. I don't know your body type, but I'm diabetic and about 5% body fat. When I was offered a job at a major med centre, I only had 2 wks. clean. I passed. Might want to check Quickfix. You used to be able to get it on Ebay for 1/2 the price, but it's worth it in a pinch. I always over excersied burned the hell out of some fat for about a week or two leading up to one, then stopped all excers for 2-3 days before to throw my metabolism off and trick my body into storing fat. Then over hydrate to where you piss almost straight water. Skinny prick here, waist is only 32" but I do work out a little. Have you ever used Quick Fix or just Bud? would like to know exactly what they did, because quite frankly I'd rather pass on the job if I think I'm dirty then have a bad piss test on file with the company. I hate being outta the loop for so long. Haven't had to worry about this shit in YEARS!!!! Fuck I'm getting old, starting to think retirement and shit like that so I'm kinda leaning towards the new job. Fuck who knows though, by 5:00 tonight, I'm sure I'll change my mind again.
