Just saw a show on discovery called 'moonshiners' all about guys in the woods making their own brew in the states,fascinating stuff,i didnt know ppl still did it.Some crazy cat with a long beard called popcorn sutton seems to be like the last of the moonshine kings,he says the art is dying out,got me thinking...Any GKers make their own hooch It was some set up they had in the forest,propane tanks and allsorts,lol,fuckin great.Iv tried irish moonshine in the form of pochet mde from potatoes and it blew my head of,i thought someone had gave me bleach or acid cos i was in a house with a guy who was convinced i was police! Strong stuff,any moonshine lovers here then.You cant help but think while watching it when the guy says he only does it for the money,"why dont u just grow weed?" cos weed dont look anywhere near half as much hassle as making moonshine seems.GREAT SHOW THOUGH:thumbsup:
Folks used to shine everywhere. Just stuck in the Appalachians after prohibition ended. My Grandpa made shine in N. Dakota during Prohibition and did a short jail stint because of it. He'd hide bottles in the rain barrel and sell to the local service men (army and Corps of Engineers guys). Then they'd go down the street to the whorehouse get drunk and cause trouble. In a town of 500 the sheriff knew who was doing what and finally got pissed off and popped him. Guess me growin' is just carrying on some sort of family tradition in a way.
I have made alcohol before.....but not on purpose! I used to make co2 injectors for planted fish tanks with yeast, suger and water and eventually it would be alcohol :thumbs-up: It can get close to moonshine if distilled ect
Pa did I know a few here and there. My Pa(grandfather) had a still and made wine and had weed in the hot house. Dad grew dank and a few uncles. :thumbsup: must be a family tradition like hank junior says
Good ol` NC; I can get moonshine anytime I want it. That show is shit though. The production company pays their taxes so they can legally shoot their reel. They are not actually breaking the law, they are just acting like they would if they were.
Popcorn Sutton is a legend around these NC mountains. Unfortunately, when he was popped by the feds, he took his own life to keep from going to prison. Sad story. But I enjoyed watching the show, too! opcorn-2:

Shine is east coast for sure. Real shine not some whackadoo bread and orange peel shit. I get it from an old biker that's from n. There is nothing better than real fine shine. I LOVE cinnamon shine basically just a jar of shine with a fresh cinnamon stick in it capped off for a few months. Apparently what we drink is about 130 proof. He can get stronger or weaker but what we get is good for me. Since this is a shine thread any one got any good party style concoctions made from it? if this is a thread jack. Here's a 5 gallon recipe Pink Lemonade Ingredients 1 bottle of strawberry pucker 1 10lb bag of ice 1 19oz. container of Country Time Lemonade mix 3 gallons water 1 jar clear shine Mix this up about 2 hours before the party starts. Measure the country time using the directions on it. Enjoy this on a hot day! Steelcity

So i ended up tuning into lotsa youtube stuff about popcorn sutton last night and i watched a few things with him.I saw his funeral and read all about his LEGAL white whiskey n shit but one thing i cant pin down is how he died Some people said the feds got him but i KNOW thats bullshit but on the topic of how he killed himself i heard he drank the 1st glass of shine which is pure ethanol and that killed him but then i heard he shot himself and some other stuff,anyone got the real lowdown?Just a morbid curiosity,peace:jj:
