hi, used coco for first time, very dissapointed with yield, used canna coco nutes veg perfecte, but flowering yield a quarter what i get from soil, same pots lights etc, loads of roots but no fruit, been growing 40 years so i thought i knew a bit but this is worse than i could get in sawdust, more roots less fruit, whats happened.
I've never heard of veg perfecte, but I have no issues with canna nutes or coco..Decent yield..I do know that for coco to act like hydro, you have to put it on a drip system and mix it with something like hydroton.
spelt perfect wrong, clay calls in bottom of pot mixed coco with perlite, watered by hand from top, terrible yield
If your going to mix your coco, I'd mix hydroton in a 50/50 mix and water twice a day. Once when lights come on, and again in about 8 hours..What are the specifics of your grow? What nute mixture did you use for flowering?
What are your environmental numbers, RH & Temps? Me personally, I would not use perlite with coco. Mix the hydroton all the way through at a 1:1 ratio and you should be good..Also, you can not let the coco dry out like soil. If you do, you'll probably have salt problems. I've been running coco for like 2 years and my yields are definitely better than soil.
Also, did you flush your coco before planting? If your not, do it! Flush and check the ppms of your run off when your first pull it out the bag and it will shock you.
i will try that 50/50 but at the end of the day is it better than say perlite/ verm or i do hempy in a 50/50 clay balls small rockwell grow cubes,I even read mix of compost/perlie 40/40 plus 20coco.If it was not for my back, old now i would stick to compost but a bit heavy lifting,IT is a lot more expensive with cana nutes etc, i have always used phostrogen plant food for 40 odd years now dirt cheap and good results, even in oxypots, soil etc tried them all but this stuff foxed me
So are you hand watering? How frequent? I've never ran hempy and have had numerous problems just trying to clone in rockwool so I can't tell you if those options are better or not. I can say that I rock the hell out of some coco. What's your pH? Coco has it's own parameters, kind of an in the middle. I keep my pH at 5.8-6.2.
dont know, 15 years ago a freind checked it with a meter said it was ok doing a flood and drain then, never bothered since, i like it simple, looks like keeping to hempy and compost but will try verm/perlite because of the light weight, Put a load of tomatoe feed in a couple of the coco pots and see if that fruits them up, the funny thing is 2 big bang autos in coco doing good with no lights in greenhouse,5ft high looking like a xmas tree with lights, same mix and nutes,
Well you're going to need to get your pH checked if you're going to be using any kind of name brand nutrient for sure, but pH check is needed either way really..I assume you're using tap water. If you're using RO water and Canna nutrients, then they should come out in range(Most of the time).
well phostragon was recomended to me 30 odd years ago by a dutch comercial grower, have used it ever since with no problems till i went coco and some fancy nutes, With Hempy you never check ph as i read but again its years ago are they makeing it difficult and more costly, u can tell i am a old hippy. Will get mate up to check ph for me watever that is ,but rang him and says canna nutes put the ph right and he is comeing over to have a look
he checked ph and said its ok, but he grows just hydro so does not know why such a low yield when i do so well in soil.Hopeing a verm/perlite grow is better only switching from compost because of the weight of the pots, my hempy in hytroton weighs a ton.
repoted veg plants from coco to 40parts miracle grow compost 40 parts perlite and 20 parts coco as got no verm available, now i know this mix works, well it does with verm, double dosesing the plants in flower in coco with tomatoe fert.
y would you change anything if you have been growin 40 plus years, havent you heared "if its not broken dont fix it?...haha...lol... anyway, i use soil and hydroughtin together, never have a problem growing or yielding, my PH is never over 7 i use lemons off my tree to ph the water. if your having problems "cloning", its usually because its not warm enough, for the roots to start growing, get a "heating pad" set under the clones. if your rockwool is to wet that is a problem too... it can only be damp. and there is something out there by "shultz" that you can soak the rockwool in or your dirt in, so that it stimulates root growth, root hormones, its also good for transplanting as well. my opinion on the coco.... don't! even! use it!... there are FAR more BETTER NUTES out there you can buy cheap, and use with out problems. TOO GET A BIGGER YEILD. peace!
if your gunna grow hydro, use a "bubble bucket" that is the best way, each plant has its own eco-system, its own "air stones" and "pump" and doesnt share "nutes" or "water" with any other plants. also its way easier to grow with. my hydro plants grow 36 inches, every three weeks, with branches that are between 34-36 inches in length IN THE FIRST THREE WEEKS, OF GROWING... i use all kinds of different nutes tho, but your normal hydro veg. and normal hydro flower nutes should work just fine. dont over nute it or water it and your plant(s) should grow to be hudge, also i grow my hydro plants out door instead of indoor, so its like "outDO/inDO"...LOL.... i think the SUN kicks a light's butt! any! day!... remember! bubble buckets... no dirt, a little bit of hydroughtin, rockwool, and just mass! roots, dangling in water....periodically check your water level in the bucket, you want the plant to drink almost the whole bucket of water, then refill it with nutes and water again, and let it grow.
"hydroughten" is better than "perlite" my opinion, perlite is to small of pieces, it doesnt really air out ur plant much or leave much room for roots to grow, but because "hydroughten" is "round-shaped" it creates pockets for roots to grow. BECAUSE OF ITS ROUND EDGES. PERLITE IS JAGGED SHARDS OF ROCK THAT FALL INTO PLACE AND CAN BE COMPACT(ED) in other words no holes or cracks for root groth. my opinion perlite just plane old sucks...lol..:BangHead:http://forum.growkind.com/images/smilies/BangHead.gif
