Fuck yes they did....watch the video...even after the first attempt he didn't shoot, but tried to control the problem. IT was only after 2 attempts and the dog ATTACKED he shoot the dog. What world do you guys live in? I fucking hate cops, but this dude didn't want to get bit up by some peice of shit's dog. Should I start listing all the cases where dogs killed people?
Cultural differences. I live in a country where we have no choice but to fight back when a dog attacks us.Either stand and get your ass bit and your kid mauled or knock that dog the fuck out. It happens,a lot. Even cops will baton a dog or tazer it. But my points not so much about thm shooting the dog.I wouldnt expect a cop to have the presence of mind,compassion and ability to man handle an attacking dog without resorting to killing it. If im the street and a dog attacks me and my family and i have a gun will i kill it. Yes i will nippie i concede that happily. But if im a cop and im cuffing a guy for no reason and his dogs barking in a car with the keys in it and windows open then im gonna direct my partner to get to that car,he can even do it with his gun drawn if hes that scared. Cops will charge into far more dangerous situations that a dog in a carwith a half opened window. Just saying,it coulda and shoulda been done differently. The dog dying was just a tragic example of the cops dim wittidness ,incompetence and arrogance. This is all thats wrong with cops. They make arrests cos they dont like the citizens being bold. That owner is 100% a fucking IDIOT. Video tape, sure, that is FINE. He was going further than that. Antagonizing, generally disturbing a crime scene, what the hell did he expect to happen? He knew exactly what he was doing. He even turned around to let them cuff him. He is the sole reason his dog is dead. And you KNOW how much I love animals. These cops were not looking for a dog to kill, they were doing their job for a robbery and some dumbass comes and turns it into a racial thing, starts yelling at them, and generally TRYING to start something for no reason? What does he think is going to happen? That is really sad for the dog. Very sad. But fuck all that is the owner's fault and if you say differently you should not own dogs. He put his own personal agenda before his dog's safety. He was a bad owner. Now, pepper spray. I agree that should be an option HOWEVER, I do not know if it works all the time. When walgreens was selling "Pit Bull spray" many people were posting videos of dogs being sprayed who continued to charge...soooo yeah. Of course I would prefer spray though, if it works. I am not going to pretend to be some expert on the different kinds and what works and what does not...I just know it does not ALL work. Now I know about all the dogs being killed by cops and generally I do agree, it is not needed. Most of the time it could 100% be prevented. This time, (unless spray would have worked), that stupid owner was to blame and should be charged with endangering his dog or SOMETHING. What a stupid person.
I actually heard a rumor that cops were not allowed to have over a 110 IQ, because the smart cops would manipulate the system.
More info I have found. The owner of the dog has more than 5 lawsuits already against the police, looks like he does this a lot. He was asked repeatedly to stop entering the crime scene. He was asked to turn his music down so the SWAT team could use their loudspeakers properly, he would not. He was clearly doing more than just videotaping. What a tool. Now his poor dog had to pay for his stupidity. I wish/hope there is some kind of law that will have him charged for getting his dog killed. If you want to harass the cops and get yourself arrested so you can sue them some more then please do it after you take your poor dog home, or at least roll up the windows.

That cop is a pussy, plain and simple. I'm a pretty thin guy and even I could give my old rott a wrestling pin. That was the move to make if it came down to it. Or pepper spray, or tazer or knuckle duster or what ever the fuck they use now as non-lethal. I assumed they gave training on this sort of thing but, apparently not. FFS he could of just ran around in a frickin circle and confused it. Pretty weak move.

I can see if the dog is a serious threat and you have to kill it, but wtf? That dog wasnt even putting up a fight. The cop looked upset after, but who know what was going through his mind. If a cop shot one of my dogs there would be one hell of a legal investigation crawling up their asses. I know they have a hard job and I'm not anti all cops, but fuck that guy.
