This is literally the second day in a row someone has asked what 'drinking the kool-aid' means within my notice. I am glad you wikied it because I was JUST about to say 'just google Jonestown". That sums it up. Other than that it is like the cheapest sweet drink you can make. It is still almost as cheap as it was when it came out. The reason you hear about black people (African Americans...I have no idea what is PC now) to MY understanding is because there are more black people with lower incomes here. Whether it be social, cultural, circumstance, false, or just a bad stereotype, they talk about black people drinking it because it is cheap. (and I could be wrong, that is just what I grew up "learning" from my own life experiences)

I don't drink alcohol, so when I say I'm drinking Kool-aid, I mean I'm drinking Kool-aid. Kool-aid is sugar, water, food coloring, and flavor. But if you hear someone say, "He's(They're) drinking the Kool-aid". That's a reference to the Jonestown masacare in Ghana where Jim Jones convinced His followers to drink poisoned Kool-aid.
