I'm going to be working on my breeding project for the next couple of months. Popped 25 ish Fire Alien Urkle f2's, and all had tails before putting them in coco. The seeds come from two mother phenos and 1 dad. I'm not going to veg them out very long, so this is going to be a quick grow. Parent Generation: Male Females Once everyone pops above ground, they'll stay in the solo cups for two weeks then into 1 gallon square pots. After a week in the 1 gal's, the plan is to top for clones and veg another week before flower under the 1k's. In this grow, I'm looking for a purple indica and a purple sativa. The indica being the Alien kush and the sativa, the Fire OG. So far, from what I've seen in this strain, leaf color is dominant, but I'm looking for bud color. I'll also be showing how I choose the male(s) I'm going to use to make the next generation of seeds. New life
Celebrate new life! This is cool man. Did you make the seeds? And are you selecting for ANY other traits, or just bud color? opcorn-2:
Yea, I made the f2's. Potency is a top priority, but mainly color. If I can find a parent that has color dominant genes, I can work on everything else later.
So I ended up with a shitty germ rate, 10 out of 25. I don't know what went wrong, maybe I should have waited to sort the seeds until the bud was cured. I have about 10 or so left that I'm going to try and pop. The ones that did make it will be transplanted into the square pots next week.
Don't get discouraged. Your theory sounds correct, though I know virtually nothing about making seeds  opcorn-2:
Yea, next time I'll cure the buds first. Add that to the list of things you still learn after 5 years. Soaking the last 14 seeds now. I'll know in a few days.
Ended up with 20 sprouts. So my germ rate was 20/60. Not very good, but I have a decent idea how to fix the problem. The older set are about to go into the square pots while the newer ones will wait their week or so.
This go round, I'm going to keep a clone of any pollen donors until after I pop the offspring. I'm switching to soil for mothers and fathers. It's hard for me to keep a mother in coco.
So I've got one auto flower male so far. Not going to use him so he's been culled. Got new nutes which lack on the Mg. I'm seriously thinking about switching back to Canna nutes. Never had a problem, just add some cal/mag. My new nutes, DutchPro, seem to have enough calcium, so I kinda fried my babies by adding cal/mag. Switched to epsom salt so we should be good to go. I'll post pictures when there's something to see.
More autoflower males. I will not be continuing this project. Time to look for another suitable strain to pollen chuck with.
I'll throw up a picture or two later. I'm talking about a seedling under 24 hours of light that has male flower clusters and actually dropping pollen. Not preflowers, but full on budding males. Plants are about 8 inches tall. I'd be ecstatic if I was just looking for females, but....
Yea it blows. If I find a keeper female, I'll have to remember it has the autoflower trait, so I don't pass the trait along.
