So I made my first batch of bho today! I used 24.5g and ran one can through it. I used a glass extractor, griddle, 2 unbleached coffee filters, purged 110-140. I haven't invested in a vacuum purge yet. I got 3g of shatter amber to dark color I would like to try and get 4g+ on my next run Any tips?
Nice man! Your getting more than 10% return so…you tell me! :goodjob: love to see pics of that glass extractor
Without knowing the exact step by step process you used the thing I can offer up is to ditch the coffee filters & use either steel wool or a combination of a stainless steel screen and steel wool. I'd also recommend using nothing buy top shelf bud when you do your runs. The quality of the final product is directly related to the quality of the ingredients. Duc Edit: Whatever you do, don't do this! Here's another kitchen full of folks with more luck than brains. NEVER EVER PURGE INDOORS!!!
Never ever ever ever EVER purge above 104 F. Use steel wool like Duc said, but rinse it clean in alcohol first. Found that there's manufacturing oil on some steel wool that can affect final product. Did I say to lower your purge temp to under 104F? :redbong: Got a pic of the product?
I'll get the pics when I get home. I'll try the steal wool next time. Also I only purge outside and practice safety. It was 20F outside last night when I did it do you think that matters. Had to raze the griddle temp to get the Pyrex to the right temp.
Dude that's funny I was outside last night making bubble hash. Yeah it was cold and I would imagine that would present some interesting challenges
Why is that? Is it to keep the vapors from igniting? Making bho you're using butane and that boils off at a really low temp. Or does it improve the finial product? I've made qwiso before. Always outside and never with an open flame. Some people are really stupid. Peace.....
Ok here is a pic of my basic setup. Everything's still dirty. :redbong: I'm also interested on the 104f purge? Here is a pic of the balled up shatter
Looks good Ms. If you get a little sizzle or pop when it burns you'll know to purge longer next time. The 104f or under is to retain the terpine profile and it affects the consistency of your final product. Low and slow is always better.
Cool man thanks for the pics. That's a cool looking extractor. Looks like it could double as a - oh never mind:eusa_eh: Funny we have the exact same model Rival :roffl:
Thanks RR. I'll try the slow purge next time! How long dose it normally take you to purge? Np FF. Yeah that's funny I thought the same thing when I got it ha! And you can't beat a 18$ griddle lol.
See I live in an old factory converted into condos... Ill never be able to run bho... Can't go out in the courtyard or parking lot to purge lol
oops yeah. but ya know what? doing the initial (dangerous) push and purge requires NO power sources and so long as its not butt ass cold outside and you can transport a few gallons of hot water, you could do this in the woods or anywhere you can get true privacy outdoors. Once you push the butane through and then let it boil off (which it does in a matter of minutes in a bath of warm water) you can pop everything back in the vehicle, drive home and do the rest of purge back home indoors in safety. last night was the fullest and brightest and longest full moon of the whole year. I could have run off BHO all night in the taste freeze parking lot and no one would have known a thing BTW I'm not recommending being lax about security, I'm just saying not having a backyard doesn't necessarily preclude BHO. I mean shit I could place a boiling pan of butane in my pickup truck bed and close the gate and unless you get on a ladder it would be invisible. This thread jack brought to you by HASH :roffl:
If I can just toss my two cents in here….to make clean oil with a low temp purge you must have a vacuum or your sample with contain boat loads of butane. You can make relatively clean bho without a vacuum but it requires more heat like the 165F range and then you end up with a wax or a sap. To make a clean shatter, you need a vac and theres just no way around it. Honestly, I won't smoke an oil that isn't at the very least dewaxed and I only make absolute oils. That is the gold standard imho.
165F? Really? If you want to know why 165F is too high, do some homework and find the various flash points for the compounds found in cannabis. I make clear clean shatter under 104F with no vacuum. It handles and cracks at room temp. Just takes a bit of patience. These cats have the best outline on winterization I know of. Much better explanation than I could give anyway. http://skunkpharmresearch.com/getting-the-green-and-waxes-out-afterwards/ If you want a vacuum purge a simple chamber can be made out of a mason jar and a food saver pump. A pressure cooker and a vacuum pump from harbor freight. Or, buy a vacuum plate, bell jar, and pump for about $250-$300. I got a home made vacuum plate and bell jar that does a nice job for waxes....but it usually sits because shatter is so easy.
