I was playing with my new camera, and lo and behold, I found an alien. He's been preserved since sometime last October. I did have a few of these, and really thought I got 'em all. Guess not... So, what's the best way to keep ants off my outdoor plants, without having to resort to Raid? OS
Outside, I just turf dust with whatever fire ant killer, with spinosad in it, is on sale that year. Helps with the caterpillars too. Indoors, borax or sugar bait. Or a water trap.
I've thought about it for sure. haha. Ants in general aren't really too concerned with your MJ plants. They don't eat them. They kind of just roam around and sometimes just end up in there. Mr. Magoo style. If they are there in force, it's usually cause they want to eat the other bugs on your plant. Like I said though, I turf dust most of my yard for fire ants, so I don't get them anymore. You might not want them on your plants, but you certainly don't want them on YOU, your kids, or your animals..
Fortunately, these are little black ants, at least they look black when they're crawling around. They found a couple of scales on the main stem and were having a field day when I first noticed them. Once the scales were removed, they went away, most of them. I used Raid on the ground before putting the plants out, but it didn't seem to last very long. Only about two weeks. How long does ant dust last? That bud was ground up and smoked before I took a close look at the picture. Never noticed the extra flavoring... Thanks for the input guys. OS
