For the past couple years, about twice a year, I've gotten a notice from the city, the water dept, that they need to come in and install a new water meter. I kept blowing it off, or forgetting about it, because it's so infrequently sent, and I'm mega busy. I got the final notice in the mail today.... It doesn't say what they'll do, just says FINAL NOTICE, contact the ____ water department at property _____. The old water meter and piping from the main is about a foot away from the door to the grow room. !!!!!!!!!! The "door" isn't really a door - it's a flimsy pull across little shade looking thing, because it's not even a real door size. It's this little short (slightly creepy) room that looks like some sort of add-on - if that's possible in a basement. I juuuuuuust finished putting everything together! There's exhaust and a fan right there, and of course both vet and flower are currently occupied. 3 weeks into flower. So...... any suggestions or ideas?? Can they just enter? Can they force me to upgrade?? Worst case, I think I could move my shit, but it's about to get mega smelly, so any other location in the house would be very difficult. And.... that "door" just doesn't... it's not a door. It's falling down. I keep it half closed to conserve any heat. Even if I put a real door in, what if they ask or need to get on the other side? As far as I can tell, there's no water piping that runs through. But it's RIGHT NEXT.
grow room door by greenthumbwhitethumb posted Jan 17, 2017 at 11:32 PM here's a pic, shitty door there on the right. Old water meter in the far bottom left corner. Some random white pipe does indeed go into the room, but the end is in the ground. Seems awfully damn big for a water pipe, but I don't know what other system it is.
Ok, here is what I have done. Depends on how many plants you have. I have done everything from put plants in boxes and hide outback or put in my van or in a storage unit for a day or two till work was done. Just a couple Ideas.
There's the meter... They shouldn't need to tour your house. Do they come in to read the meter? Not too long ago, the city replaced our water meter with one they can read remotely. With the electric meter and the gas meter having been done a couple of years ago, somebody's always watching. Kind of creepy to be able to see how many kWh I used in the last half hour on the power company's web site. Can the opening be blocked off with something such that the plumber guy wouldn't be motivated to explore behind it?
The big pipe is sewage. They won't need to look at that. What I have done is build flimsy privacy screening out of random stuff - boxes, plywood, etc. then unscrew the light bulbs in the basement so the switch doesn't work so they have to use flashlights. Make sure nothing is is direct line of sight. Let the fans / lights run until the last possible minute, then shut them off. Get your cat to shit on the floor down there. They will be in and out in ten minutes or less.
If you can get some ona or a ozone maching to cover smell works also. But put in boxes and move out back in i shed or somewhere upstairs or in a van works good while company is over. I put stuff on back porch covered when the garage roof was done. They were in and out if garage and never noticed anything. Just thru a tarp over the grow box with junk put on top of it to nake it look good. David copper field couldnt of did a better job.
LMAO! Cat shit would certainly be an olfactory deterrent. Yes, I have a couple ozone generators. One is an inline one, and another little plug in guy that I was gifted from a fellow GK bud. The little room IS the grow room. You walk in, and there's a panda film wall & door on each side - veg on the right, flower on the left. I guess my biggest concern would be if they needed back there for whatever reason, or worse, if something about the meter swap went kooky, and took longer than normal. I've done the "crap piled up in a corner" thing before when I was searching for roommates a few years ago, and it looks a bit weird because the wall isn't straight (see pic). I picked the roomie who offhandedly mentioned being an outdoor guerrilla grower back in the 70's. (Yeah, my roomie is an old fart, and he's AWESOME) I think I'd like a real door of some sort there anywhoos, I suppose this might be the motivation to do it. I thought about if I put a lock on it, and if they ask about it, say 'it's my roommate's stuff, and he's not here'. That way if for whatever emergency reason they really do need to access, that would buy me time to do whatever I need to do. So I think I might be able to set up a temp grow spot in my attic (I have an extra light). I can run the little ozone machine there right before they get there, and then air the fuck out of everything right after they leave. Thanks for the input, guys! <3
That's no joke. Those guys are trained by genetics. What's the first thing you do when you open a basement door and catch a whiff of steaming fresh cat shit? BREATH THROUGH YOUR MOUTH Not a breath of air will pass a nostril until they are a block away.
And yet my stupid fucking dog just salivates at the smell! Of course, this is the same dog that loves to eat the cashed ash from my bowl. I shit you not. He sits there and waits for me to clean it every time I grab my bong.
