There is a medical grower here that gave me a run-through on his approach to cultivating/harvesting/curing MJ. In summary he left the buds on the plant, in the soil, after they were 50% red-haired. He stopped watering it for 2-4 weeks after a pure water flush, but left the 12/12 photo cycle going. He was not clear about how long he allowed this drought to go on, but he mentioned that the bud was dry enough to smoke right off the stems...which were then snapping when bent. He said it was a better smoke than when he harvested, hung upside down, and cured in paper bags.

I'm yet to try this, as I just heard about it recently...but you can bet your arse I'm going to try it soon! Thanks for the testimonial Budweiser3.

Bud I am doing something similar myself. I have two Glass Slippers that were badly infested with powdery mildew so I gave them a spray with a vinegar/water solution to try and rid them of the mildew. Well it worked, but it also burned the **** out of the buds (they were 4 weeks into flower [IMG] too). Well the buds dried up, and I basically fucked my plants all to hell, so I put the two plants into my shop (not being used right now) which has windows on two sides...just to see what would happen. There have been no artificial lights...only what nature is providing right now...and no water. Here it is almost a month later and the buds have gotten FAT and oh so nice lookin'. What I thought was a total loss turned out to be not so bad after all so I am leaving them there to see what happens. I have nothing to lose so why not. I'll let ya know what comes of my 'experiment'...:bigok:

Sounds like you're just basically letting them ripen fully and then dry/cure right on the plant. I think you're onto something, bud!

    Nice one bud3!! [IMG]

Sounds like the natural ripening process is truly what our good mother nature intended. Do let us know what transpires as well for your experiement herbsparky. And smoking them right off the plant? Awesome! Saves the hassle of all that curing time and chances are, this is the time the plant will want to invest most of its natural defences (e.g. thc as well as the rest) into the buds as this is the time when they are liable to fall off and wait for next year. Hence, this is the time they have been working for all their little lives and so want the most defences agains t insects and other nasties as possible. Just a theory, but it seems pretty sensible from an evolutionary point of view and also to explain this wonderful phenomenon.

    Keep it up

    Peace.

Aye, just imagine a ripe cannabis fruit falling off the vine after coating itself with goopy tricomes! I'd eat it for lunch and call it quits.

    streakeruk Full Flowering

    This isn't new.

In the good Damn, several years ago, in the Dutch Cannabis College, I viewed several plants with golden leaves and big sticky buds.
I was enquireing as to the whys and hows and luckily at that time the guide was the grower, he explained that the plant was better being left for longer, it is allways better to leave the plants than to chop them. The plant eventually dies, trying to flower and still produceing the THC. The THC is absorbed into the leaves, giveing the golden colour and the process just goes on and on till the plant dies.
Cutting the lights back a bit helps, as does moveing the light further away from the plants ( reduces the THC burnt off by the light).

The problem is whilst the current crop is finishing for 12 weeks, the next crop is waiting to go into the room! The balanceing act of yield/quality/time, you can't have all three? Can you?

I would think that there would come a point of diminishing returns where the THC lost by light burn-off would dwarf the amount produced since the plant is dying. At this point it may still be useful to leave the plant in its pot - but get it out of the light.

    Good point MrBoJangles

I think I am going to try this method. When the plants look just about ready to harvest I will stop watering, reduce my amount of light and let them sit for a week or two like this. Then turn the light off and let them sit for another week.

    What do you guys think?

I have seen several posts and a chart of when to harvest and if you go by them your buds should have lost potentcy.
I guess you cant belive everything you read. -peace-
