New puppy. Not sure why pic came out sideways? Last time everyone was posting pics of their doggys, i had just lost mine to K-9 cancer. Now this little bundle of joy found her way home here and happiness is back. She is a 6 month pure bred German Sheppard. Her hobbies are eatting, pooping, digging holes and chew bones. /monthly_2015_02/image.jpg.294c04bb6af5b9999cbfcdcdefc93bbc.jpg
Good looking pooch!! Big Shepherd fan. We grew up with one when we were kids and I've had a couple sense. My last one died from stomach cancer. You'll be hard pressed to find a better family pet for sure. The kids and I have tried to talk the wife into another one but she prefers lap dogs. Be Cool, CG
That's a great looking doggie you have there and such bright eyes too :thumbs-up: As for the sideways pic, I've only had that happen when I post an uncropped iPhone pic.
It was uncroped phone pic. I cant hook phone to computer. I think the phone jack for charger port is getting wore out. Its great having another dog that i have been wanting. And then getting the dog for free with all shots and fixed with cage and tags. Toys and even a big bag of iams puppy chow. Lol. The wife tried selling me on getting apple dog but we need a dog that wont hide under the couch if someone breaks in. I like small dogs buy enjoy bigger dogs. They are extra protection you cant get from ADT. I do need to train the dog for some things. I am guessing youtube might be a good place to look. Anyone know any certin dog training videos i can check out?
I have been taking my puppy to a training school. That is probably your best bet if you want good results. They have schools for guard dogs, show dogs, and house dogs.
I found a series on YouTube but the harder the thing to train the longer it takes, i didnt expect to get her trained in one day but do have sit and shake down. :roffl: It looks so easy to train dogs on the video, it is more patience than anything. Disco: are the schools expensive? I am sure its money well spent.
Sit, shake and down are easy for them.... Go pee, is a real handy command, and easy for them to pick up.... When you know the dog needs to pee, but their nose tells them there's other things to smell and do, but you're in a hurry.... When you know they probably need to go, tell them go pee, and reward or praise when they do.... Sounds silly, but it works, and may even save you a wet car seat or worse... It's always where you sit.... They're smart enough not to pee where they sit...
I always made my commands as simple as possible. For things like tricks and basic shit start with words then convert them to hand signs. The only thing that's still just a word command is "outside". Hands signs are ideal when there are other people around talking. A firm look and one finger in the air means 'pay attention' Hold my hand out flat palm down means 'sit' My hand out palm up means 'give me 5' Hold my hand out flat and make a loop with my finger and thumb she 'dances around" Point one finger down means 'lay down' Make a circle with one finger she'll 'roll over' Work my hand like a puppet talking is 'speak' When the kids have friends over they're fascinated how she'll do things with just the hand signs. I'll tell them that she can say anything but only for me. I'll tell them to give her a word to say like 'cat'. Of course she doesn't make a sound when they say 'cat'. But I can say 'say... cat' and she'll bark. Again and again word after word. They are amazed!! They never figure out that she responds to the word 'say' and the 2nd word means nothing. But good luck getting her trained, time and diligence. Establish yourself as the pack leader, the boss. And try hard at first not to pass out to much affection until your position is firmly established. Just the praise and attention of the pack leader is a huge reward for a pup. Then add in the treats for the tricks. Mine doesn't get a treat without at least a couple tricks, she loves doing them and feels like she earned her reward. Be Cool, CG
Well today she got out front and almost ran in the street, took 20 min to get her to come to me after i got her food bowl and she came up and i grabbed her. I am prob the worst dog trainer. Def patience is the trick. She needs to learn to stay and not bark at every thing, are main two things now. I might be better off putting her in training classes for a couple things. She is still a big puppy. She loves the kids and a great gard dog. Some bad teens down the street were running around fighting and yelling at 11:30 at night and came in the side yard and the dog freaked out major and i heard the one teens say "get the hell out of here, there is a big dog back there comming thru the fence." So i feel she can keep the homestead peace. Which is good. I told her good girl and gave her a hug after that. :thumbs-up: But if she would of got out of the fence it would of been bad. I wouldnt of been able to control her. Good thing she cant get out of the back and i am screening the front so if she gets out the front door again, she cant run off.
She got liver cancer. In a matter of 5 hrs from when she got sick we had to put her down She was 5 years old last month and my fav pup ever. Took me a few to get over the depression but what can you do. It sucks and i spoiled her and loved her dearly.
