growing under 125 watt and 60 watt cfls(bud/veg)but am having a little algae or some such thing growing on top of my soil.I'm using tap water ,20/20/20 and wal mart potting soil mixed with perlite.(cheap and poor) I generally keep them quite wet,and have very little air movement except when I open the closet up,and I never test my ph. Any ideas, without getting to technical or costly? Kind of experimenting with the cfls, someday will get around to posting a grow once I get the bugs worked out. otleaf-3:Thanks y'all
Green algae isn't a big problem let your soil dry out a little plus you can cover your soil with paper or cardboard that will stop it-Bud
algae isn't a problem...until it starts growing on your plant then it will lead to stem rot. Algae on your soil can be caused by overwatering, too high humidity or too loww temps. The latter 2 basically keep the surface soil from drying out enuf between waterings. Underwatering means ur plants aren't totally happy. Don't do that unless you kinda want some ok weed. Learn to water by weight. Pick up your pots when you water and every day in between. You'l get a feel for when its dry. You don't ever want a really light pot. A light pot is dried out. If you dry out the pot there wwill be pokets that will not get wet again durring normal watering, as well as roots that get no food. When this happens the only way to force the water into those voids is to put the pot in a larger container filled with water to soak. The larger container sshould be filled to the top of the soil in the smaller pot....ps don't float ur dirst....soak it. Remember that if you want your plant to produce its best you have to give it everything it needs exactly when where and how it needs it. Anything less...isn't everything. Happy growin'
