do i just need a ballast or do i need that, and a ingniter,? if yes .... Can anyone tell me where a cheap affordable hps fixture could be found? home depot? or anywhere ele's,,,,,, about how much would i have to spend? i know for good smoke price is no object but i am really low on funds ext. thanks again ..
yes a ballast and a starter and cap. home depot is a good start for budget lighting, but you should save your funds and buy the one you want. once you start, youll have to save again to buy it anyway, cause eventually youll realize you want more. weve all started somewhere. lighting companys sell rebuild kits for HID lighting next find the post that shows a member that made his own box. combine the two and BAMM a cheap HID. i think it was Herbsparky that made it, ask him. Hey , General , if I understand your question right , here goes . The "Ballast" has several parts , one of which (HPS) is an ignitor . BUt that's part of the "ballast" , not a seperate purchase . The ingnitor is a part that can fail and be purchased seperatly for replacement later . If funds are as critical as you say , then an outdoor flood light type fixture with internal ballast may be an option you would look at . I lost the link , but I'll try to find the place again and let you know . Something like Econo ... anyway they had real cheap all-in-one HPS fixtures . And as funds become available you could upgrade from a plain parking lot bulb to a Horticultural Bulb . And later when you can afford it get a remote ballast high-quality reflector with exhaust hood . And speaking of exhaust it , looked to me like you could cut holes in the aluminum housing of one of those cheapo all-in-ones and end up with a pretty good substitute for the high dollar setup . Hope that helps , Strato .
