I woke up this morning to find my plants drying out. They are grown indoors and I had to put a small space heater in there to keep it above 65' F. But the wind heat the heater gives out drys out my plants and makes them look like sick ladies. What should I do ? My room is 27" wide by 35" tall and by 35" length. Running 3 cfl 30watt bulbs on a board with hood that i made from scraps from my wood shop. They give out 2000 lumens each. Only plant foods i use are perlite and tomato plant food sticks at 8.16.8 and some MG for it's high Nitrogen levels.
last winter I used one of those infared heat bulbs that you use for reptiles it wont affect your light cycle so you can have it on during dark hours and it puts off way less heat than a space heater plus it will use alot less electricity saving you money you can pick up a bulb with a little cone reflector for like 15bucks I would try this it worked great for me.
get a 250w hps. that should heat your room and give you better yield. The beat way to warm a room up is to add more lights.
If its 60*-65* he should be fine. If it's lower, Its such a small space that even a heating pad would work. BTW toss those food sticks
i use an oil filled radiant heater in my space and it does just fine with a small fan blowing across it to distribute the heat it also has a thermostat so you can control what your temps are...i found a couple different models at lowes and home depot... And btw,,,perlite alone is not a food source....
Dont put a reptile light in there for lights out, it Will give off red light wich WILL affect ur plants, if ur humidity is low then put a bowl of water behind the heater and that should bring up the humidity a bit, for an area that small a heat pad isnt such a bad idea. and I do like the 250W HPS idea to bring up the temps during lights on. P.S. lose the ferts you have now and buy some FoxFarms or anything other then what you have.
wait a sec, you did say MG right? as in Miracle Grow? Well it might have a good nitrogen level but its very unsuitable for MJ. Next grow take it out of the mix its probably effecting your plant growth
correct me if im wrong but a space heater is also going to give off "red" light because it is glowing red the infared light is designed to give off the mildist list spectrum and is compared to the glow off the moon i understand that pitch black is the best but for those that grow outdoors their crop will still recive light durning the night and turn out fine when I used the lamp last winter (live in a state that gets veeeerrry cold) my plants turned out awesome i would rather have a little red light than a dead plant due to cold.
I stuck a cool vapor humidtfyer in there today. That helps the humidty out when ever it get to low. Far as the littel space heater. It has no glowing red look to it at all when it burns. But I might just change it out with one of those radio heaters. Mentioned earlyer. I just have one question for those who put thin layers of perlite on the top of the soil. Would that not make it to dry or what ? It is not a very good food source at all. Just pops like popcorn when your water it. Smack, crack, Pot. ) My temps now are staying at 65 - 80. There 65 - 70 lights off or maybe littel lower and 70 - 80 during the day. I have also noticed if your using small wattage bulbs with high spectrums like the CFL bulbs. They work fine but they just dont put off anofe heat. I belive that the plants can absorb more heat when the temps are higher. Say like 80 - 85 even posabley 90 but for not very long or you be cooking the laddies.
About that space heater It has no red glow to it. It is a electric heater not one of those propane heaters you might be thanking of. Any ways they seem to be doing better now. I made a small 1' by 1' box with no front panel. Out of some scrap boards I had. Then put some screen door mesh on the front. That seems to block the massive heat blows to my babies. Also added a Cool Vapor Humidifier to keep the humidity right at 45 - 55. This helping make bigger and fatter leafs. So now I need to find somewhere to get more seeds. Cause I am all out. Left with my best 2 plants. It will be a long time before they are able to clone. Besides I like watching the hole process taken place. From sprout to that beautiful gaunga every one loves to toke.
How much heat do you think a 400 watt HPS would put out? Enought to keep 4 plants in a grow box cozy and warm through cold nights?
DEfinately!!! ..............Most Definately!!! 250 watter will do it for ya by the sounds of the way things are set up there my friend!!! Peace, UrBigBuddie.........
for sure! oh for sure.... unless you using them in a massive room rather than a closet type grow area?Shit at times the prob i usually have is the opposite,i usually try to keep the heat down and humidity and i live in scotland...dont get much colder than that at winter, lol!Peace
Totally!!! I MUST say young Apprentice, i have the exact same problem myself, i must admit "APPRECIATION" to this one brother!!! Peace Out, UrBigBuddie...........
obviously this fella is trying to heat his space when the lights are off more than when they are on. Now the best thing for that situation is a oil filled heater that doesn't give off light from metal heating up as space heaters do. Also most of them or all of them come with a thermostat. Another cheaper option but equally as effective is the ceramic fan heater. This heater gives out no light..cept for the led light which you can cover with black nail polish.... these put out less heat but still will heat up a room very quickly.. and these also come with thermostasts, r can be rigged with one on a timer to keep the room optimal....like an hour on and an hour off on it's medium setting... something that was brought up here and also by me a while back is just hanging up a heating blanket in the corner of the room or along a wall.. the ambient heat from it alone should keep the room at about 65-70 degrees, no matter how cold it is outside This problem is easily fixed so don't freak out man..just remove that space heater .... and think it through some more
