anyone that has one could you tell me how close you put the light...i have mine (2 24" FLUROS) and 2 100w cfls almost right against the done....seems to work for me but was reading through the "cloner" threads i see that people have the lights in different positions from against the cloner dome to 3' above... so what does everyone do ? thanks ncm
Uhhh, no cloner here except an old tote wrapped in mylar with an old shop light ($7 new at depot) light clamped to the top and rockwool, fuck my "dome" is the top of my wife's cake thing (glass).... never lose clones To answer your question, 1 cfl about a foot away works perfect for me
I use my DIY aero cloner with a Sun Blaze T5-24 2 ft. 4 bulb fixture and I don't use a dome. I keep the light from 4 to 6 inches above the cuttings-clones.
Normally, you always want the light as close as possible, but for clones, it's the opposite, IMO. Less is more, IMO. That being said, with CFLs and Flours, it doesn't really matter. Hang them a ft. or 2, 3... and you'll be fine :thumbs-up:
Never used a bubble cloner, but... I have mine in rock wool, w/ a dome. For light I have 2 24" floros about 6" above the dome. The dome is about foot high I think, above the tops of the clones. I've had lots of success with this, and I don't think the failures have been due to light problems - it's been obvious stuff like cold, too much water in the tray w/o bubbles, etc. I think the further the lights are, the less power they have, and I think the light energy delivered to the plants from the lights drops off dramatically as you increase distance. My understanding is that with clones, you don't need a lot of light, but my guess is the limiting factor has to do with heat rather than light energy. In other words, the light is too close if it's burning the plants. Otherwise you are probably fine. And I have in the past used only one cfl a foot above the clones, no problems.
IMO people think you need far more light than you really do. I use 1 24" T5 about 6" above my cloner and I have rooted upwards of 60 clones with just that one light. I agree with Mr. A, less is more.
as i suspected there are many different ways to skin a cat....thanks to everyone for helping me out with this...seems like light distance should be from 4-6" above dome to maybe a foot if you are using maybe a 4light t-5....i am using 4 2' fluros.. so whatever works for each of you is always the correct way to get your clones off and running..... thanks again... ncm
