A portrait of President George W. Bush using monkeys to form his image that was banished from a New York art show last week amid charges of censorship was projected on a giant billboard in Manhattan on December 21, 2004. 'Bush Monkeys,' a small acrylic on canvas by Chris Savido, created the stir last week at the Chelsea Market public space, leading the market's managers to close down the 60-piece show. The image is seen on an electronic billboard near the entrance to New York's Holland Tunnel, December 22. (Mike Segar/Reuters)

A good sign of an untrustworthy administration is blatant censorship.

If this would have been a picture of Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan during their terms(not to say they were perfect they all have flaws) the painting would have shown Im willing to bet.

an except from Bush Betrayal written by James Bovard

            Caskets and Miscounts

The Bush administration prohibited the media from taking photos at Dover Air Force Base of returning caskets of soldiers killed in Iraq. White House spokesman Trent Duffy justified the ban: "The message is that the sensitivities and the privacy of the families of the fallen must be the first priority." But other administration actions have scorned the wishes of families of dead soldiers. Newsweek noted, "For a year now, according to the Army Times, the military has put every obstacle possible in the way of family members who want to go to Dover to receive their loved ones. One family specifically asked for media coverage of a burial at Arlington. Request denied." Army Times editor Robert Hodiern commented: "The military is so concerned they will have to fight without the support of the American people that they will do anything they can to limit the release of information or images they fear would erode that support."

The ban on casket photos may be an expression of Bush family values. On the eve of the invasion of Iraq, Bush's mother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, commented during a television interview: " Why should we hear about body bags and deaths and how many, what day it's gonna happen?...It's not relevant, so why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

Perhaps because of the lack of photos of caskets, at least one top Bush administration official had trouble keeping track of the war's toll. Paul Wolfowitz, testifying to Congress on April 29, 2004, was asked how many American soldiers had been killed in Iraq. Wolfowitz replied: " It's approximately 500, of which--I can get the exact numbers--approximately 350 are combat deaths." As of the day of Wolfowitz's testimony, 722 Americans soldiers had died in Iraq, including 521 killed in combat. New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd commented: "What can you say about a deputy defense secretary so eager to invade Iraq he was nicknamed Wolfowitz of Arabia, so bullish to remold the Middle East he froze the State Department out of the occupation and then mangled it, who doesn't bother to keep track of the young Americans who died for his delusion?"

***limit the release of information or images or they fear would erode that support."***

This is censorship deluxe...they(Team Bush) are so afraid that people would begin to cast doubt on the failure of a mission...that they will deny them the truths...

In regards to the pix Herbster posted...another classic example of: Bush Freedom...(Team Bush) is worried that seeing the Prez in this light might bring fits of laughter to the masses...and that to Team Bush is not acceptable...

BTW...Herbster...the pix...worth a thousand words if you like Bushdaddy, if not it's worth about three...

                    GOT BUSH FREEDOM?

Credit has to go to the artist PC. He's sees it too and has expressed it thru his art. Isn't that 'the American way'? To show disent is what Americans are all about. True it's not censorship if the art is displayed in a private show, but it speaks volumes to me. There IS censorship as is pointed out in that Newsweek article. What scares the **** out of me are those Americans unwilling to let people share their disent for fear that it's anti-American to do so. God help us all when that starts. The past shows us the path that follows.
