...and is that just from cutting strait into soil? ...Rooting in 8 days? Nice Did you have a dome of any kind over it?
Now, I might sound like a newb saying this, but I am about to start my cloning adventures in a month or so, and is all that yellowing normal?
I was just given advice from a garden-store manager to place clones into a medium without nutrients; but to wait until roots form then into soil/hydro. This was to be done in tandem with app rooting hormone gel while ensuring that they were in a humid environment, as all moisture is absorbed through the leaves until roots form. Other than the nutrient stress, I'd say those clones look great HiC, and as Herb asked...what strain are you growing there? (Edited by llIndigoll at 12:16 am on Jan. 9, 2004)
hey folks...these are ak47xbubbleberry, outta' around 20 "name brands" this is my keeper. Had her well over a year. 'pothead..The rooting medium is actually. equal parts vermiculite/perlite/(Black Gold)soil.I use Rootone, and made my final cut underwater in a weak kelp mixture. If ya look close, you can see a plexiglass on top of the tub that serves as a dome. I like to begin on day 1, removing the dome for 20-30 minutes once or twice a day. Progressivly extending the exposure time untill by day 7 or so, no dome at all. I usually leave it off untill I can see the cuts begin to wilt(dehydrate), then a misting and back on with the dome. joker 'n toa...the yellowing is caused by cannabalization, or the cut feeding off of itself while struggling to produce roots. But, I overdid the misting with kelp on these..ie:the burned tips IIndi....I've had great succes cloning directly into 50%ver/per, but found it to be so unstable when you try to transplant. that is, it falls apart, and the soil kinda' binds it together so your rootball stays in tact, thus, less stress, faster recovery...happy cloning...hic
Yes, it needs nutes to produce the roots. Like I said, yelowing does occur here and there.... Thanks HIC for that ak cross, mine is doing great! She is nugging up nicely...
Thanks for the testimonials. HiC...a plant eating its own nutrients is not cannabalization, as the plant's sole purpose for storing those nutrients is to 'eat' them. In a Biology class I had recently the instructor asked "Why do plants store nutrients in their leaves?" Several students replied that they do this to provide food for herbivores. Needless to say, the answer is, they create food for themselves, making them autotrophs. If they were cannabals they would be devouring other cannabis plants.
LOL @ Indigo...so true. I found that when the clones start to yellow...and they will...that this is the time I know they have established roots and need to go into their new medium. Nice work there HiC. I am a firm user of rockwool for my clones, but that system seems to work great for ya.
misting with kelp ...interesting...how do you buy that..i mean what form does it come in..ive never heard of doing that
indy.....aototrophs ehh?, my new word for the day maybe cannabalization isn't the correct term..but then, I've never been a biology student : herb'..I'm gonna try thise RW cubes one day. This new grow store I recently found does carry the stuff, and as you say, "What works for you..." Ms..the "kelp" I'm useing is a concentrated liquid fert, by Age Old Organics .3-.25-.15. Can be used as root dip, seed soak or foliar feed. I usually let the cuts soak in a diluted solution of it for 10-20 minutes after makeing my final cut. I've only used it on the last 3 batches of cuts, but it has seemed to improve the succes and they seem to root fast.
