GreetingsWell its been a year since I started and have made incredible progress thanks to you guys.. It is time to expand my flowering capability and my technology with LED lighting this time.I am building a 12 long by 4 wide by 8 high space which will give me two lighted areas (4x5). My entrance is in the center so basically either side of the entrance-way will be a 5x4 grow space.I am building this time with temperature control in mind - the LED's dont produce much heat so I am going to need to be able to control and maintain my inside temperatures.I framed and covered all walls with 1 inch foam board (white side in) and on three of the walls added insulation in the cavity and foam on the outside.I am concerned there is too much blue printing on the white side of the foam board so I will be putting panda film over the foam board (using 3m 77 adhesive)I ran a separate 30 amp circuit down to the space. I will be running a single 440cfm fan and scrubber run thru a fan temperature speed controller - basically fan runs at minimum setting unless needed to keep max temp in check. I will be running an oil filled heater in the space on a day/night temp controller.I picked up 2 of the Grow Onyx Bloom Master LED's. These are made with 10watt Cree chips and with two of these I should get a little more light than my 1KHPS and a better footprint. I will be picking two more of these up for the other side next month.http://www.onyxgrow.com/bloom.htmlI will keep everyone updated once I get some plant under the LED'sThe plan is a harvest every 4 weeks or so.Here are some pictures of my work: /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3557.jpg.5262c747dd55d7f7a9d5fc2baebe5a46.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3560.jpg.fd2bf2480af659717832e1b1ec578f1f.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3561.jpg.72a1fdcb97c327f26b73623bcb56d409.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3555.jpg.c2d9f059af3c30f3b507824080062fe4.jpg
Thanks!! I basically applied everything I have learned into a nice clean slate.. Cant wait till its up and running
I guess 450$ per light really isn't that bad. Figure a ballast typically costs 2-3 hundred , plus hood , plus bulb , your in the same ballpark. If this thing can compete with a 600hps I'd run it. I'll just watch you first though.:coolbounce:
That's going to be a killer room when it's done. I'll definitely be pay attention to see how this all pieces together for you. Really interested to see what you can do with those onyx. :coolbounce: And man you plan on using 4 total in the end? NICE!!! That should be tons of light. Remember to keep the light at some distance. You can probably use their par chart and get a better idea of height placement, about 300uM for small transitioning plants, about 500 or so for veg and 800-1000 for flower. OH and meant to ask. Are you just going to use all warm white ones? That's
sweet dude, I like those lights they, have come a long way in a few years with that technology. I was going to buy some new light set-ups in a few months...hmm. congrats on your new room:thumbsup:
I propose its time for a new episode of Growkind TV staring DXE in a gorilla suit. We'll call it GrowKind Cribs. :jj:
Cooling is not going to be an issue. The ambient temp in my basement - year round - never gets out of the sixties. I will bring in ambient air as needed using a temperature based fan speed controller. I will supplement heat using a small oil filled heater. I made the room as tight as possible and insulated it well so it should be fairly easy to regulate temp. In my current setup (two 5x6 tents), my HPS provides most of the heat I need. Once the LED's get here and are up and running, I will have a better idea how my temperature control is going to be. - will keep everyone posted
unboxing dayLike a little kid a xmas - I got to unbox my new LED lights - onyx bloomFirst impressions - they are really compact - 18x6 i believe. The case is one integrated heatsink and fan, the power supply is separateNice log cord between the power supply and lamp unit. I will put a shelf in my power center area for the supplies and just run the low voltage into the room.Started a temp test (without lights) so make sure my heat controller will maintain temp (day/nite) with the fan running on its day/night controller.I will hang the first set of lights this weekend. If all works well I will be getting another two for the other side of the room. Might even replace my MH veg tent light with one of their Onyx Veg lights /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3571.jpg.8843d952c41085b47d4a672e2f73f545.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3572.jpg.8c58de285191357c6e37daa902af5f2c.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3573.jpg.97471bd9b8b03dcca06e9ad0969773f3.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3574.jpg.9346d3190136df5fc81195bf14cedbb8.jpg
I tried led's a while back when they were junk, how is the light spread on those, the old ones pretty much went straight down.
Plug that sucker in and see how bright it is! Mine is definitely bigger but then again mine is 72-5W diodes and this is 28-10W diodes. I think it took me 2 minutes from the time I pulled up to the house to unbox mine and plug it in to check it out. LOL
I will be hanging the lights today so I will update with some more pictures, light footprint info etc.
First set of lights up - i am covering a 4 by 5 foot grow space with 2 of the ONYX Blooms.Coverage is superb - I could move the lights a little further apart and easily get 4x6 coverage.Light intensity - judging by my eye - is brighter than my 1K HPSAttached are a couple pctures - not the iphone camera adjusted the brightness so its hard to tell how bright these things really areI will be moving the first plants in there next week - my 6 week Cotton Candy will finish up their flower cycle under the LED's /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3580.jpg.fab2fbccfba28b51b72a0ee1363cc719.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3581.JPG.16a1ba672cb62ebe55c9a63edcdc85b6.JPG /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3582.jpg.7d483f48dc64259b6f656af80b2be51b.jpg
Nice to see those tiny fuckers in a blaze of glory. really can't wait to see more and what they can do. I keep having an itch to expand too already. If I do I think it'll either be one of these or either a new area 51 RW-150 or two RW-75s to go on each side of the 190 I have currently. But I got a while to decide. Glad to hear you aren't disappointed so far, I'm sure with the small size you were second guessing. I know I would have. Like "WTF is this!?" then plug it in and be like Ohhhhh ok. :thumbs-up: LOL
up and runningWell - temp and light checks went perfect - 80 during the day and 75 at nite. Ambient in cellar is 56 , 30% RHI moved my 5 week cotton candy to finish up under the LED's for 5 more weeks. I attached a couple pics of the girls in their new home. Also ordered a PAR meter so I can get some real number comparisons between my 1Khs and the two of these ONXY units. Should be interestingJust pulled my old Flower tent apart - been up for over a year and its time for a real good cleaning before I move my Blue Chocolate in there next week. The real test will come in about a month when the cotton candy finishes. I am going to run 6 JBxxKO under the LED and 6 under the 1KHPS and compare them closely - lots of pics to follow once this gets under way. /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3617.jpg.ec48f651d1793f93408d3abe90b8c83f.jpg /monthly_2014_03/IMG_3616.jpg.3936985ee4401d4ce25728f5368072ce.jpg
opcorn-2: This should be an interesting side by side! I've always wanted to see what the difference was between the two, other than the added initial expense of LEDs. Keep those photos comin!
