i have 2 females growing in pots out back, and in order for them to get enough sunlite, i have to move them around, due to some large tree's in my back yard. the problem is that im going out of town for 10 days, and have no one to do this small chore for me while in gone. so i was wondering, if i left them in an area where i think it will get the most sun (but not much, like 3-4 hours of sunlite) will this be ok for 10 days, or can it screw things up, if not getting the right amount of sun it has been getting?
#Moderation Mode i can't imagine they're only getting 3-4 hours of light. maybe direct light, but they don't need direct light the whole day. it's better, of course, but not necessary. i don't have a lot of experience outside, but i think it depends on how much shade there is in the morning and evening. my friend put a clone outside earlier this year and it finished recently because it got a lot of shade in the morning. it was also stressed by going directly from an indoor environment to this spot outside, so that probably contributed to triggering them to bloom. so, how much shade are they getting? Moved here
they do get alot of shade during the morning. the sun shows up back there at about 1:00, and i have to keep moving it a few times to follow the sun, if i do this it'll get about 6 hours of sunlite. so thats why i was wondering if it will be ok for them to be left in just 1 area for 10 days wiere it will not get that much sun.
from my experience with outdoor growing, shade in the veg period is not so great. You need at least 6-7 hours a day of direct sun for MJ plants... that is for healthy, full figured plants. mine survived with just 5-6 hours of direct sun a day and did alright... can't say I didn't get fucked up off the harvest... but good sunlight is good for vegging and also maturing. I don't know if it's true that shade from the afternoon sun will bring on sooner budding. I used to put black bags over my plants in the afternoon and forced 80% of my plants that I ever had any harvest from.
no one answered my question! i want to know if its ok to leave them for ten days where i wont be able to move them to follow the sun
without enough direct sunlight for 10 days straight they might try to start flowering. if that happens the plants will stretch while you're away then growth may be stunted when you return because they will try to revert back to veg mode. reverting after 10 days of flowering usually takes at least 10 days. assuming they get enough water and nothing eats them, the worst case scenario would be 20 days of relatively unproductive growth (because they are stretching the nodes, not growing new ones). btw, what part of the world do you live in? in the northern hemisphere plants will begin flowering in less than a month. in that case, your plants will possibly just get an early start on flowering.
what are the temps gonna be for the time ur leaving? you got to think after u water and leave them if it gets to hot the water will go away quickly and after that they might get there roots fried from the hot sunlight and high temps, but if those arnt a problem, then u have animals to worry about and if they dont get ate, well the flowering process, lots of things to worry about when u jus want to leave a few simple plants also if you hate moving them around as you said try to get em alot of southern exposure to the sun, in all the forums and books ive read its supposed to be the best way to face cannabis plants since we live above the equator
If ya can, find a spot where they will get at least 5 hrs of sun they should be fine. They will survive in shady conditions. Cheers.
