Ok, 4 plants now down to one..the rest were dudes. I'm happy bout my one female though and have tried to clone her. I followed various directions found on the web. I used peat pellets since I couldnt find rockwool and used a rooting powder. I didnt cut under water or anything and used scissors to cut as close to a 45 degree angle as I could.

Its been 2 days and I'm not sure what should be happening. They are wilting but they are still pretty green. Here are some pics. Any opinions on their appearance would be appriciated. Should they look like this. I thought I might not have cut them long enough..ect..just unsure.

    Thanks! cuttings.JPG

i would not use scissors to clone with... maybe to cut the clone off the mother ,

but then use a razor to cut the 45

Too late to use a razor on these? How do they look so far?

    Thanks!

honestly .. not that great , but hey , they are still green. Often cuttings will sag

for a day or two , but should then perk up a little ...at least in my little bit of experience.

I can only offer a few pieces of advice,.

    1. do the whole thing as fast as you can. You dont want the cuttings

not in water or rockwool or something for long.

    2. rooting gels seem to be easier to work with and keep an air bubble

from getting in the stem , thus stoping food uptake.

    3. use a razor blade for the 45 cut and clearing node regions

    4. make sure you have at least one node in in the ..dirt , rockwool , etc

    good luck,

hmm..cool, thanks for the advice..I'll give em a few more days to see how they turn out. I dont have too much time since I'm in flowering stage for the mom. Also, dont want to take too many from her..

patience grasshopper. it can take 2 weeks b4 you can tell that anything is happening. i know it's painstaking to just look at it, but there is nothing you can do, but fuck 'em up right now. ;)

they look good to me. just don't disturb them any more than you have to. they need a lil air, but don't let 'em dry out. especially at the beginning. as long as they are good and green you are fine. also, at first when you remove the lid they will droop considerably. if they perk up once you put the lid back on you are alright. eventually they will not droop when you take the lid off.

my advice if you want it.

you could have taken longer cuttings. you could have not made the final cut with scissors. it crushes the stem. you should make the final cut under water. air hits the stem and seals it off if you cut it above water. did you skin/girdle the cutting at the bottom?

Are you using a humidity dome? or something else to keep the moisture in?

Plants primarily get moisture from their root system. They can also get moisture through their leaves.

Newly taken clones have no root system, hence no way to get water, except through the leaves. That is why it's important to keep them enclosed initially, to keep the moisture in. After a while, you can gradually expose them to the air for longer periods of time.

new cuttingsWell, I think I totally fucked the first attempt..i'll let em go but have little hope for em..I have picked new canidates and wanted to know if these should be good and where to cut them. I found a hydro shop and they have what I need to do it right so, Im going tomorrow to get rockwool and a bigger dome. Thanks for the great advice guys! Keep it coming!

You won't be sorry, my friend. When you see those little white roots poking out the bottom of the cubes/pellets... well, it's a really great feeling.

Remember, not too much light intensity. You're not trying to 'grow' them, you're trying to get them to form roots. Fluorescents are best, imo.

You might also want to read the method in the FAQ. It's what I use with great success.

Good luck, Dude and don't get discouraged. Oh yeah, cut a few more than you want to survive. In case a few don't make it.

Second try..Ok, here are the new clones. I found a hydro shop and bought a bigger dome and rockwool. The guy was pretty cool and showed me lots of stuff..I think if this grow goes well hydro is next.Anyhow, 3 new clones (limited) cut them bigger, used razor blade and made a 45 degree cut..under water. I also skinned it. I have them under flourecents. So, I have my fingers crossed and will update this thread when and if they root. Thanks for the help and if anyone else wants to put in the 2 cents please feel free.

Lookin good, dude. Just one thing. You say "I also skinned it."

Do you mean you scraped the outer layer off the bottom of the clone? If so, be careful with that. You can easily scrape too much off. I killed more clones that way.

  13. johnnyblaze

    johnnyblaze Germinated

yeah, I very carefully scraped the skin at the bottom above the cut..probally not more than half an inch..i was follwing the guide in faq forum..

OK there jb. It's been a while since I read that FAQ. Just be careful.

I was never able to master that. At best, I'll try to scrape it enough to just break the skin. And I do it prior to the cut. Once I cut 'em, I dip 'em right in the cloning gel so that no air gets in.

Ok, so the clones are doing much better than the first. No crazy wilting or anything..but one of them looks like it is flowering. I see the white hairs. The others I dont see them. Is this bad new for my clones? Did I do it too late?

    I see a root!!

So far I have one clone that is now showing a root coming out of the bottom..do I wait to see more roots from that plant before I can plant it..I am going to put it in soil.

I would leave it be till a few roots are showing , then I would transplant .. assuming the

plants dont wilt when you remove the humidity dome.

    good luck,
