What an idiot. We have some of the best weed on the west coast between Or., Wa., and Ca. and this idiot is going to import Mexican schwag!

With the sale of marijuana legal in Washington State, one former Microsoft manager hopes to turn his budding pot business into the Coca Cola of cannabis.

Former Microsoft Corporate Strategy Manager Jamen Shively hadn’t even smoked pot 18 months ago, but he now hopes to launch the first retail brand of marijuana to sell in outlets throughout the Evergreen state. Named after Shively’s great-grandfather and former vice governor of the Island of Cebu in the Philippines, Diego Pellicer, Inc. is poised to become the first name brand marijuanasold in the U.S.

But first Shively, who says he’s now a casual marijuana smoker, and the company have to get past some touchy legal hurdles.

“What we’re all about is making it extremely professional and having the highest quality and efficiencies,” Shively told the Seattle Times.

Shively has purchased a number of pot dispensaries in both Washington and Colorado, has plans to sell in both the medical and adult-recreational pot markets and announced plans to partner with Mexican growers to import marijuana for sale in the U.S.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox has joined Shively’s bandwagon and the two unveiled a plan to open up the “legal” pot trade between the two nations.

There is still the hazy issue of skirting international law that prohibits the marijuana trade – legal or otherwise – between nations, and Shively is the first to admit that he unsure how to handle that.

“I don’t know how exactly that would be done, but I know it’s been done in other industries,” he said.

Besides international regulations, Diego Pellicer, Inc. also faces issues with the federal government, which has been at odds with several states over the regulation and prohibition of marijuana. With both Washington and Colorado legalizing marijuana and a slew of other states having either decriminalized the drug or permitted medical marijuana use, federal authorities and local governments have butted heads on the enforcement of national laws.

While the Obama administration has been more lax than previous administrations in its policy toward marijuana, it has still maintained a firm anti-legalization message.

“The administration steadfastly opposes legalization of marijuana and other drugs because legalization would increase the availability and use of illicit drugs, and pose significant health and safety risks to all Americans, particularly young people,” the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy said.

For his part, Shively has compared the federal prohibition to the slow collapse of the Soviet Union and said that there are fewer defenders of the law every day.

The company has also set up a number of yet-to-be-named safeguards for investigators against the federal regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission, but some observers claim that Shively seems likely to run into trouble.

The so-called Cole memorandum from the U.S. Department of Justice explicitly mentions “a concern with operations involving thousands of plants and millions of dollars” and is evidence of the federal concern with big pot businesses, said Alison Holcomb, drug-policy director for the ACLU of Washington, according to the Seattle Times.

The Justice Department hasn't said how it plans to respond to the votes in Washington and Colorado, but it could sue to block the states from issuing licenses to marijuana growers, processors and retail stores on the grounds that doing so would conflict with federal drug law.

Shively seems undeterred by the opposition to turn Diego Pellicer, Inc. into the Budweiser of, well, bud.

“I’ve just fallen in love with the plant,” he said. “Especially in the medical realm I’ve gone from entrepreneur to advocate to activist, seriously.”

Well I wouldn't go so far as wishing him busted, but if he tries this you can bet that is exactly what is going to happen. What the hell is he thinking? If I had his money and knowing what I know I'd get a bunch of warehouses and scour places like this for good growers and then hire their ass.

I'm a different kind of animal I guess. He's a rich guy that up until recently didn't even smoke. His state legalizes and he see's $$$$ so all of a sudden he loves the plant and is an advocate and activist? I CALL BULLSHIT! This guy is what's wrong with society in general. Not all pot smokers are friends of the movement IMO.... :passsit:

If that is how yall feel, use your REAL names on Facebook. Step up if you think this guy is taking your "jobs" and a hypocrite.

I say he is taking advantage of a situation and has the money to do so. Any one with money and the love for pot can join in, in my opinion, because we need them. We don't have a GOOD lobby for a reason.

In every retail industry your always gonna find a Walmart. In every grow for profit industry your always gonna find a Monsanto. This venture i feel will fail cos people that smoke weed know whats what. He might attract a few johnny come lately smokers who dont know the difference but the real connoisseurs will boycott his shit like the plague. Big business WILL come and take what they can.Its up to the small guys to use their heads and UNITE as a collective to compete.Well that would be my 5 year business plan if i was out there in among these exciting times. If your a successful breeder with a buzz behind you then merge with some other collectives. Wholesale = Profit and he likely cant get the wholesale numbers he wants for the prices he seeks in the states. But as much as a dickish plan as it sounds. This guy MAY open some doors for others unwittingly. Or,he greases a few palms and the big guys lock the door on the little guy. The little guys need to join orces and promote their exclusivity and BRAND BRAND BRAND themselves. Shit id love to be living in the states right now.Exciting times:beerchug:

I actually do on my real fb account and I aide my states medical ballot drive. Ive not only donated money but also time.

I have no shame in promoting tge legalization and im a professional in my day job. Tgats a far cry feom announcing that I continue to grow in an illegal state.

Im no hypocrite but I also wanr to protect my ass

Awesome Nippie, and I am happy to have people like you doing what you can.

We all want to protect our asses, but that doesn't mean you can't be involved in the movement. I may not grow right now, but I have millions in possession charges if any cop ever came to my home. No, I wouldn't go to jail, but I would have an ass load of taxes and less cars (Even though I bought all those vehicles with LEGAL MONEY because I don't do ILLEGAL THINGS, seriously. I Have never been a dealer and haven't grown for four years).

Grow, don't grow. Put your name out there or not. But don't bitch because someone with money is trying to profit off of pot. That is the complete opposite of what we want.

I too am active in promoting legalization. I vote, I've written letters to congress, adn I've aided in political campaigns for new MJ legislation.

I'm not bothered cuz dude wants to make money, per say. What really bothers me is that he wants to start bringing in MJ from Mexico rather than grow it here in the States. We've been the ones fighting for the legalization. People like us, the little guys that have been persecuted for it. Shouldn't it be us that this guy turns to in order to grow an American Business? Rather than Mexico? I question his motivations in regards to actually giving a shit about the movement. This guy is 100% about the $$.

I think he should have acres of weed, but mexican schwag, seriously? And the other thing that strikes me as odd about all of this, he is going to partner up with the former President of Mexico. Vincente Fox was Bush's boy when the two were President of their respective countries. Outwardly Fox was complete anti drug and anti cartels. Also, the last time I checked pot was still against the law in Mexico. We have an American citizen rotting in one of their jails right now for allegedly trying to smuggle weed into the states under her seat on the bus. This is all just goofy as shit if you ask me.

And just like Walmart his product will reflect that. Stoners aint stupid. Big business is gonna realize that stoner consumers unlike most other consumers, aint all zombies. Stoners can think for themselves and i honestly hope this venture fails so it teaches other big business that theres a standard they got to adhere to here and schwagg aint it.Your correct though Ras in your opinion that NOT every pot dude is good for the community. He may be good in the sense that if he gets his way it could open doors but if he gets his way im sure he would rather close them doors. Hes here for the green and i dont mean the weed. The movement will see thta and be watching this with their popcorn to see where it leads:popcorn2:

All good points that I didn't think of right off. I would say that just like Wal-Mart (which is an American company), any big business marijuana operation, like the one we follow on our Facebook, would soon realize people would rather have American/Homegrown/Medical grade marijuana whether they are sick or not, and they will adjust to that.

Mexico has the advantage of being a year round grower, but they do not have the advantage when it comes to quality. It will be like me smoking local cigs for $4 a pack versus Camels which are $6.
