I am a strong believer that everything items that we pay for has a direct link to what political party is in power. For instance, GASOLINE. Dec. 2006, gas was around 2.60 a gallon here or more.... Republicans were in power.

January 07' and now the Dems have taken back control over the congress, BOTH HOUSE AND SENATE, and gas prices have fallen down here to 1.91 a gallon...IN 1 MONTH!

Now, other things should begin to go down in price also. If you look back over the years and compare the cost of gasoline to what political party is in power you will see an even stronger correspondance between the two.

This also applies to the minimum wage, and what party has a track record of keeping the minimum wage up with the times????DEMS...

Most people will tell you that raising the minimum wage causes things to go up but that is all political propoganda through the media. IN fact the government has proof that raising the minimum wage actually causes more jobs, better pay all the way up the scale, and a strengthened economy. Think of the best, richest states in the Union and then look at their minimum wage...

unemployment also corresponds rather positively with a raise in the minimum wage also, wages go up, and more Jobs become available due to more people being able to start more businesses.

If it happens then more people will have the money to go shopping, and that equals a better economy in a materialistic world..

08' lets get a Dem in..... Hopefully Hillary and Obama will run together... either way I'm voting Dem again in 08..

I don't know.... When Jimmy Carter was President and the Dems had both houses, there were gas shortages and high gas prices, 21% interest rates on home loans, Inflation was out of control, and the Middle-East was a mess, Iran was holding U.S. citizens as prisoners,.....

Actually, I'm a firm believer in Gridlock. Things seem to be better when different parties control the congress and the White House.

During the Regan years, the Dems controlled the congress and the Reps had the white house and the economy was good.

During the Clinton years, the Reps controlled the congress and the Dems had the White House, and the economy was good.

So, now that we have opposing parties in the different branches again, things are starting to get better. Although the economy has humming along pretty good the past 3 years. Unemployment is around 4.5%, inflation is around 1.5-2%, interest rates are around 5.8%.

    i HAVE TO AGREE.

I argued against the minimum wage hikes for all I was worth. Now, I see it did considerably more good than bad

Here is a graph showing the price of gas over the last 37 years in today's dollors:

Notice under Nixon, the price of gas was pretty low, and through the Carter years, the prices were a bit higher and the last two years of his term, prices really took off. That seems to be caused by the Iran-Iraq war. After all when two large oil producing countries are at war, it will de-stabilize the amount of oil being exported from those countries.

Under Regan, the prices dropped over his term until the end of the Iran-Iraq War in 1988 and then dropped quickly back to the historic lows of the Nixon years. Things were pretty stable during the Bush-1 term and Clinton Terms, with the exception of the short time during the first Iraq (Desert Storm/Shield) war.

What is interesting to note is that there is a pretty sharp drop in gas right after 9/11. I think that is because OPEC was worried that we would just bomb the shit out of the whole Middle East and lowered their oil prices in an effort to be friendly.

Since then, however the US has been at war and the prices have been rising pretty steadily

So, by looking at this graph, I would say that what impacts the price of gas is not so much who is president, but rather wars being fought in the Middle East. IMHO.

A major supply of our crude oil come from the middle east, and yes we r in a war with for the last couple years....

What i say is we start increasing the drills in alaska and stop depending on middle east for our oil and become more independent from that part of the world. I'm sry, I'm all for protecting the environment but do it the right way so we dont have disasters in Alaska, those PETA ppl r gettin to have to much power and its gettin outta control.

I hate to say it, but Bush is doing the right thing, once iraq is on our side, gas prices will go down. Everything takes time and i think it would be the right thing. I feel hard for the troops, I feel for the troops in Iraq, I have friends there, but in the end i think it will work out for the US. We wouldnt be fighting for no reason. Think about it

well, maybe im one of those treehuggin type, but i would think it would be more adventageous to start moving the dependence to more renewable sources of energy, the technology is there we are all just lazy, to be honest. before electric cars and thinks like that were shite, honestly, pretty poor performers but now..i mean, weve got car companies producing electric (100%) cars that get the cost equiv of 135mpg, can go about 250 miles on an overnight charge and can go 0-60 in under 4 seconds but we still need the oil? eventually we are going to have to abandon oil anyway, shit runs out, so we might as well start planning now instead of having a crisis in a couple decades.

better yet better change now by our own free will instead of being forced by exterior factors.

yeah, we are there for the oil, but, well... thats the problem, i think the war was supposed to be about something else, but i cant remember now...:wink:
