grow box questions

    I'm helping a friend put together a flowering chamber. He is expecting to get 40 flowers per box using a microSOG grow and basically flowering after 1 week of veg, veg times will vary due to strain but that's his plan. He went ahead and bought 6 105w CFL's and fixtures. 630w of CFL should be plenty light but what size box should he build or look for? I don't know how big the plants are going to get but I imagine he can control them for the most part. also having 630w of cfl is a lot of light but b/c they are cfl's shouldn't the lights be pretty close to the plants? should he get a tall box and split it into two chambers or do you think a horizontal box would be better? anyone have any info or ideas let me know, I'm excited to start building as soon as I can!!!

    I am currently growing in a 3' x 4' x 8' I split it in half so I have 2 boxes 3 x 4 x 4. I have been thinking about taking the divider out and grow fewer and bigger plants.

    how many plants can you fit in each 3x4x4 box? and how much and what kind of lighting is in each?

    I'm using 9" pots it holds about a gallon and a half I can put 9 bushy plants in there comfortably. I have a 400w hps uptop and 380w cfl down blelow Here is a pic.

    thanks for the info and picture that helps give me a better idea of what to look for, more brainstorming tonight and tomorrow I'll go see my buddy and hopefully we can go shopping!!!


    anyone have any ideas or comments on the lighting?

    I got about 30 plants in a 2'x2'x40" 0-veg SOG setup, and here is the DYI closet construction thread on it as well. If your using CFLs, your going to have to seriously worry about heat in a tight area. You will need mega venting. CFLs though cool, when you use a lot of then, its a lot of heat.


    I used to use about 300W of cfls but the temps were causing stress. Put a 150HPS in a DYI cooltube w/ 100w extra CFLs and it stays in the low to mid 80s now and I get about 40% more lumens.


    Issues I have with 8 plants psqft is watering. If your going for a dense sog, think about gravity drip or something with tubes to water so you don't have to move shit around. I got to constantly take plants out when watering and it sucks ass.
